Book Description
The library has also been screened using a tomato cDNA encording ACC oxidase and again the mango equivalent has been characterised. This clone has around 80% homology to the tomato clone and is expressed, as expected, during ripening. In addition the library has been subject to differential screening to identity ripening specific clones. Several clones have been identified and characterised. Data base searches have shown strong homologies for two of the clones. These represent a rab 11 type GTP-binding protein which may be involved in targeting material to the cell wall during ripening, and a chaperonin of unknown function. [Authors' abstract].

Book Description
A comprehensive and mechanistic perspective on fruit ripening, emphasizing commonalities and differences between fruit groups and ripening processes. Fruits are an essential part of the human diet and contain important phytochemicals that provide protection against heart disease and cancers. Fruit ripening is of importance for human health and for industry-based strategies to harness natural variation, or genetic modification, for crop improvement. This book covers recent advances in the field of plant genomics and how these discoveries can be exploited to understand evolutionary processes and the complex network of hormonal and genetic control of ripening. The book explains the physiochemical and molecular changes in fruit that impact its quality, and recent developments in understanding of the genetic, molecular and biochemical basis for colour, flavour and texture. It is a valuable resource for plant and crop researchers and professionals, agricultural engineers, horticulturists, and food scientists. Summary: Reviews the physiochemical and molecular changes in fruit which impact flavour, texture, and colour Covers recent advances in genomics on the genetic, molecular, and biochemical basis of fruit quality Integrates information on both hormonal and genetic control of ripening Relevant for basic researchers and applied scientists

Pages : 718

Book Description
The Mango is one of the oldest cultivated fruit crops, having been grown in India for at least 4000 years. Mango is the most important fruit crop of Asia and its annual production is exceeded worldwide only by Musa, citrus, grapes and apples. The last decade has seen a rapid growth of mango production, mainly due to expansion into new growing regions but also to the adoption of modern field practices and cultivars. A wide range of fresh, mango cultivars are now consumed worldwide and are available year round. The Mango: Botany, Production and Uses, published in 1997, represented the first comprehensive examination of all aspects of modern mango production and research. Developing upon the successful first edition, this book incorporates a discussion of significant advances in mango research that have contributed to improved production and will be highly relevant for researchers and growers alike.
