Activated Carbon Adsorption

Activated Carbon Adsorption PDF Author: Roop Chand Bansal
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 1420028812
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 498

Book Description
High surface area, a microporous structure, and a high degree of surface reactivity make activated carbons versatile adsorbents, particularly effective in the adsorption of organic and inorganic pollutants from aqueous solutions. Activated Carbon Adsorption introduces the parameters and mechanisms involved in the activated carbon adsorption

Modified Activated Carbon Perchlorate Sorbents

Modified Activated Carbon Perchlorate Sorbents PDF Author:
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 42

Book Description
A new method for improving the selectivity of activated carbons for adsorbing perchlorate has been developed. The technique involves alkylation of functional groups present on the activated carbon surface. The modified activated carbon typically have adsorption capacities 5-10 times that of the parent activated carbon. The technique is believed to mainly alkylate the oxygen surface groups rather than the nitrogen surface groups.

Chemical Modification of Solid Surfaces by the Use of Additives

Chemical Modification of Solid Surfaces by the Use of Additives PDF Author: Ranjan Kumar Mohapatra

Effects of Activated Carbon Characteristics on Organic Contaminant Removal

Effects of Activated Carbon Characteristics on Organic Contaminant Removal PDF Author: Detlef R. U. Knappe
Publisher: IWA Publishing
ISBN: 1843398419
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 100

Book Description
Many water treatment plants need to remove objectionable trace organic compounds, and activated carbon adsorption is often the best available technology. Utilities face the challenge of having to choose from a large variety of activated carbons, and iodine number or BET surface area values are often utilized in the selection process. Although neither parameter correlates well with adsorption capacities, alternative activated carbon selection criteria based on fundamental adsorbent and adsorbate properties are lacking to date. The first objective of this research was to systematically evaluate the effects of activated carbon pore structure and surface chemistry on the adsorption of two common drinking water contaminants: the relatively polar fuel oxygenate methyl tertiary-butyl ether (MTBE) and the relatively nonpolar solvent trichloroethene (TCE). The second objective was to develop simple descriptors of activated carbon characteristics that facilitate the selection of suitable adsorbents for the removal of organic contaminants from drinking water.Originally published by AwwaRF for its subscribers in 2003 This publication can also be purchased and downloaded via Pay Per View on Water Intelligence Online - click on the Pay Per View icon below

Element-Doped Functional Carbon-Based Materials

Element-Doped Functional Carbon-Based Materials PDF Author: Sergio Morales-Torres
Publisher: MDPI
ISBN: 3039282247
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 188

Book Description
Carbon materials are one of the most fascinating materials because of their unique properties and potential use in several applications. They can be obtained from residues or by using advanced synthesis technologies like chemical vapor deposition. The carbon family is very broad, ranging from classical activated carbons to more advanced species such as carbon nanotubes and graphene. The surface chemistry is one of the most interesting aspects of this broad family of materials, which allows the incorporation of different types of chemical functionalities or heteroatoms on the carbon surface, such as O, N, B, S, or P, which can modify the acid–base character, hydrophobicity/hydrophilicity, or the electronic properties of these materials and, thus, determine the final application. This book represents a collection of original research articles and communications focused on the synthesis, properties, and applications of heteroatom-doped functional carbon materials.

Activated Carbon Surfaces in Environmental Remediation
