Modeling Chemistry and Flow in Catalytic Fixed-bed Reactors with Detailed Geometry

Modeling Chemistry and Flow in Catalytic Fixed-bed Reactors with Detailed Geometry PDF Author: Ying Dong

Book Description
In this work, three-dimensional CFD models were developed and applied to simulate catalytic fixed bed reactors with different types of packing configuration and reactions. A spatially resolved profile measurement technique was applied in this work to critically validate the simulation results, and to calibrate parameters required in the model. This work demonstrates that detailed reactor modeling and profile measurements are useful tools for achieving an in-depth understanding of the interactions between flow, heat and mass transfer and catalytic reactions in fixed bed reactors. Furthermore, with the comprehensive knowledge gained from both methods, a knowledge-based reactor optimization approach can be put forward.

Modelling, Simulation and Optimization of Industrial Fixed Bed Catalytic Reactors

Modelling, Simulation and Optimization of Industrial Fixed Bed Catalytic Reactors PDF Author: S.S.E.H. Elnashaie
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 135143067X
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 510

Book Description
In the last two decades impressive advances have been made toward the understanding and quantitative description of the kinetics. Despite these advances, however, the use of mathematical modelling of gas-solid catalytic reactors in industry is still limited. By consolidating progress in the understanding of catalytic processes, this book applies these fundamental advances to the development of models for design, simulation and optimization of industrial reactors. Paying particular attention to the verification of the developed models against industrial data, these models are used to optimize the performance of many practical reactor cases. Using a systems approach for the development of the different components and the resulting overall models, the book is easy to read and gives an insight into the behaviour of these complex industrial systems. In addition, the practical relevance of bifurcation, instability and chaos to industrial reactors is briefly discussed.

Pages : 375

Book Description
Fixed-Bed Reactor Design and Diagnostics: Gas-Phase Reactions presents the essential theoretical and conceptual background of gaseous reactions catalyzed by solid catalysts in fixed beds. This book intends to provide recommendations to professionals who seek for modeling, scale-up, and diagnostics of fixed-bed reactors. The text is divided into three parts. Part I provides the conceptual background and relevant theories. Part II presents recommended mathematical models, scale-up procedures, and diagnostic methods. Part III gives a number of practical examples. The topics that are specifically discussed include heterogeneous catalysis and kinetics; general tubular reactor model; and general diagnostics for fixed-bed reactors. Engineers and professionals working with fixed-bed reactors will find the book highly informative.

Modeling and Simulation of Catalytic Reactors for Petroleum Refining

Modeling and Simulation of Catalytic Reactors for Petroleum Refining PDF Author: Jorge Ancheyta
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 1118002164
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 449

Book Description
Modeling and Simulation of Catalytic Reactors for Petroleum Refining deals with fundamental descriptions of the main conversion processes employed in the petroleum refining industry: catalytic hydrotreating, catalytic reforming, and fluid catalytic cracking. Common approaches for modeling of catalytic reactors for steady-state and dynamic simulations are also described and analyzed. Aspects such as thermodynamics, reaction kinetics, process variables, process scheme, and reactor design are discussed in detail from both research and commercial points of view. Results of simulation with the developed models are compared with those determined at pilot plant scale as well as commercial practice. Kinetics data used in the reactor model are either taken from the literature or obtained under controlled experiments at the laboratory.
