Book Description
Aurora, an unimportant planet far away from the regular trade routes. The human colonists had turned their back on technology and chosen to live the way people lived in the Dark Ages of Earth. Major Jeremy Falcon and his Accilla partner, Alita, were sent to Aurora to investigate the rumors that giant Ants were abducting people and were possibly getting ready to invade the planet. Traveling on horseback from town to town, they faced prejudice and religious zealots. They began to wonder if the rumors about giant ants had been exaggerated. What they found was much more sinister and shocking. They raced against time trying to avert an incident that could spark a war between the Osirian Empire and the Solar Union. The discovery they made suddenly drew the interest of all the major races that lived on this side of the galactic wheel.

Aurora 7

Aurora 7 PDF Author: Steve Whitfield
Publisher: Collector's Guide Publishing

Pages : 0

Book Description
Book & DVD. The story of the flight of Aurora 7 has rarely been told. America's fourth manned spaceflight has often been overlooked, sometimes overshadowed by the popularity of the flight of John Glenn which took place just three months earlier. But what is often lost in the telling is the fact that Glenn had almost lost his life when his re-entry had been fraught with problems. Regardless of this danger, Malcolm Scott Carpenter stepped up to his Mercury spacecraft and into the history books. Carpenter was one of America's original seven astronauts and he would only fly into space this one time. His mission was to last less than five hours in space and his assignment was to continue to put the Mercury spacecraft through its paces. With only a single orbital test flight behind them, the engineers at NASA knew that Carpenter would still be taking a monumental risk. On 24 May 1962, Aurora 7, carrying Scott Carpenter leapt off the launch pad aboard the Atlas missile and soared into Earth orbit. After over four and a half hours in orbit Carpenter had fulfilled a busy schedule of assigned tasks, but that schedule had distracted him from the imminent task of re-entry. His small capsule would overshoot the landing site by more than 400 kilometers and would spur the world news agencies to declare him lost. Fortunately, things were not quite so bleak and Carpenter would soon be recovered by the US Navy task force and would return to tell his story. This is the story of America's second manned orbital spaceflight told by the man who flew it from his original reports. On the DVD: Aurora 7 mpg Film, Air-Ground Voice Communication Transcript (35 pages); Description And Performance Analysis (206 pages); Mercury Manned Orbital Capsule Detail Specification (166 pages); Project Mercury: A Chronology (258 pages); Project Mercury Familiarization Manual (431 pages).

Book Description
1.1. MISSION BACKGROUND The scientific objective of this magnetospheric physics mission was a detailed in vestigation of the Aurora Borealis, or 'Northern Lights'. The fields experiments (electric and magnetic) were constructed by the University of California at Berke ley (UCB), and Los Angeles (UCLA) respectively. The particles instruments were constructed by UCB and the University of New Hampshire in collaboration with Lockheed Palo Alto Research Laboratory. The instrument data processing unit was provided by UCB. The spacecraft bus, telemetry, and launch services were provided by the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center SMEX office. The science principal investigator is Dr C. W. Carlson of UCB, and the program is managed by the SMEX office. The UCB design philosophy emphasizes the demonstration of design margins set by peer review. As a result, each boom system was extensively tested at a prototype level before the flight units were manufactured. Additionally, the design, assembly and testing of each boom mechanism was conducted by a single engineer solely responsible for its success.

Kolonie

Kolonie PDF Author: Roger Bullard
Publisher: iUniverse
ISBN: 1475987285
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 391

Book Description
By the thirty-fi rst century the nations of Earth had united and sent kolonies throughout the Sol System, as well as to six other star systems in the Milky Way. Candidate planets to kolonize were beginning to become more and more diffi cult to fi nd, but the Head of Kolonization had a bold plan to send a kolonie to another galaxy; a galaxy nearly twenty-five thousand light years from the planet Earth. Durability on the order of twenty-seven thousand years dictated a totally reengineered ship and an android crew capable of being mothers, and fathers to the frozen embryos to be born on a New Earth in a far distant galaxy. Barely fifteen thousand years into the mission disaster strikes the Aurora, and although the ship survives it has somehow been thrown into a location in intergalactic space only one hundred light years from an unknown galaxy. The crew, awakened from their sleep mode, has no idea of where they are or how they got there; but they soon discover that the kolonists have all perished in the disaster. This now becomes the story of how they work toward establishing their own culture, and toward accomplishing their mission to establish a New Earth kolonie.
