Description: This diary includes daily entries with continued comments on the weather, crops and livestock, visitors and other daily events. Dancy tells of the hurricane that hit Matagorda in September 1854, the advent of smallpox in January 1855, his nomination and election in August 1855, and other Democratic Party activities. From November 22nd, 1855- October 8th, 1856 he also describes a debate in the Texas Senate on the Kansas-Nebraska bill and the adoption of the resolution disapproving of Sam Houston's vote on the issue in the U.S. Senate. He also notes the accidental death of his son and makes several references to a bad drought in the summer of 1856. Some portions of the diary between May and July 1856 are missing and damaged.

Description: Dancy mentions here his enlistment with Ben McCulloch's volunteers during the Mexican-American War. The daily entries relate to the weather (including specific temperatures), planting or crops and other activities. From April 10th 1848 to August 1849 the subject of most entries are again, he weather and planting of crops, and also the visitors to his plantation and the rise and fall of the Colorado River's water level. He also gives a description of a discussion that was the basis for Monument Hill in Fayette County, the Presidential campaign of 1848, Dancy's courtships of Rebecca Tait and Lucy Nowlin, and his attendance at a meeting of a navigation convention in Columbus. From June 12th, 1852 to March 13th, 1853, the weather, crops, visitors and the building of a gin press are daily themes. Dancy also begins to write about railroad development here, setting up offices, issuing stocks, etc. He also remarks upon the birth of his daughter in August 1852. The proceedings of the Senate and his feelings towards certain legislation are also described. The Diary also skips fro August 1852 to January 1853.

Description: This diary includes descriptions of the plotting of ill-fated Colorado City (Fayette County) and its review as a possible sight for the Capital of the Republic. The writer tells of his travels outside Texas and makes many comments regarding the weather, crops and prevalent diseases. Dancy gives a good account of the Mexican Invasion of March 1842. Entries for October 1840 through to 1841 are very brief, as are those for 1844 to 1847.
