John Minnis, son of Samuel Minnis and Mary Bittles, was born in about 1754 in County Down, Ireland. He emigrated from Ireland to near Philadelphia before the Revolutionary War, in which he served. He married Nancy Susan McCammon in about 1788 (while on a return visit to Ireland), and settled in Blount County, Tennessee. They had eight children. He died in 1838.
