The research examines relationships between job tension and two situational social factors, frequency of interaction with individual classes of role-senders and role-set diversity, and two background social factors, age and education, among a sample of military mental health technicians in the performance of their occupational roles. The four social factors were relates to three sets of job tension scores. Data were collected with an anonymous, mailed questionnaire. Respondents were 136 social work/psychology specialists on active duty in one of three types of mental health services within the U.S. Army. Implications of the study findings for further research are discussed. (Modified author abstract).
