Transmission Electron Microscopy

Transmission Electron Microscopy PDF Author: Ludwig Reimer
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 0387400931
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 602

Book Description
The aim of this monograph is to outline the physics of image formation, electron–specimen interactions, and image interpretation in transmission el- tron microscopy. Since the last edition, transmission electron microscopy has undergone a rapid evolution. The introduction of monochromators and - proved energy ?lters has allowed electron energy-loss spectra with an energy resolution down to about 0.1 eV to be obtained, and aberration correctors are now available that push the point-to-point resolution limit down below 0.1 nm. After the untimely death of Ludwig Reimer, Dr. Koelsch from Springer- Verlag asked me if I would be willing to prepare a new edition of the book. As it had served me as a reference for more than 20 years, I agreed without hesitation. Distinct from more specialized books on speci?c topics and from books intended for classroom teaching, the Reimer book starts with the basic principles and gives a broad survey of the state-of-the-art methods, comp- mented by a list of references to allow the reader to ?nd further details in the literature. The main objective of this revised edition was therefore to include the new developments but leave the character of the book intact. The presentation of the material follows the format of the previous e- tion as outlined in the preface to that volume, which immediately follows. A few derivations have been modi?ed to correspond more closely to modern textbooks on quantum mechanics, scattering theory, or solid state physics.

Transmission Electron Energy Loss Spectrometry in Materials Science and the EELS Atlas

Transmission Electron Energy Loss Spectrometry in Materials Science and the EELS Atlas PDF Author: Channing C. Ahn
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 3527604774
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 472

Book Description
This book/CD package provides a reference on electron energy loss spectrometry (EELS) with the transmission electron microscope, an established technique for chemical and structural analysis of thin specimens in a transmission electron microscope. Describing the issues of instrumentation, data acquisition, and data analysis, the authors apply this technique to several classes of materials, namely ceramics, metals, polymers, minerals, semiconductors, and magnetic materials. The accompanying CD-ROM consists of a compendium of experimental spectra.

Proceedings of the 1993 Connectionist Models Summer School

Proceedings of the 1993 Connectionist Models Summer School PDF Author: Michael C. Mozer
Publisher: Psychology Press
ISBN: 1317780523
Category : Psychology
Languages : en
Pages : 428

Book Description
The result of the 1993 Connectionist Models Summer School, the papers in this volume exemplify the tremendous breadth and depth of research underway in the field of neural networks. Although the slant of the summer school has always leaned toward cognitive science and artificial intelligence, the diverse scientific backgrounds and research interests of accepted students and invited faculty reflect the broad spectrum of areas contributing to neural networks, including artificial intelligence, cognitive science, computer science, engineering, mathematics, neuroscience, and physics. Providing an accurate picture of the state of the art in this fast-moving field, the proceedings of this intense two-week program of lectures, workshops, and informal discussions contains timely and high-quality work by the best and the brightest in the neural networks field.

Catalysis By Ceria And Related Materials

Catalysis By Ceria And Related Materials PDF Author: Alessandro Trovarelli
Publisher: World Scientific
ISBN: 1783261315
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 527

Book Description
The use of CeO2-based materials in catalysis has attracted considerable attention in recent years, particularly in applications like environmental catalysis, where ceria has shown great potential. This book critically reviews the most recent advances in the field, with the focus on both fundamental and applied issues. The first few chapters cover structural and chemical properties of ceria and related materials, i.e. phase stability, reduction behaviour, synthesis, interaction with probe molecules (CO, O2, NO), and metal-support interaction — all presented from the viewpoint of catalytic applications. The use of computational techniques and ceria surfaces and films for model catalytic studies are also reviewed. The second part of the book provides a critical evaluation of the role of ceria in the most important catalytic processes: three-way catalysis, catalytic wet oxidation and fluid catalytic cracking. Other topics include oxidation-combustion catalysts, electrocatalysis and the use of cerium catalysts/additives in diesel soot abatement technology.
