Ce cours traite des fondements théoriques des méthodes spectroscopiques et des éléments indispensables à leur utilisation en chimie analytique en vue de la détermination des structures et des liaisons organiques (constitution, configuration et conformation). Chacune des méthodes suivantes est développée progressivement, de ses principes théoriques à ses applications aux différentes classes de composés organiques : spectroscopie UV/Vis, spectroscopie dérivée, méthodes DC et DRO. Spectroscopie infrarouge (IR) et Raman, spectroscopie IR à transformée de Fourier et méthode de couplage IR/CPG. Spectroscopie de résonance magnétique nucléaire (RMN), RMN-1H, -13C, -19F, -15N et -31P, découplage de spin, triple résonance, spectroscopie différentielle INDOR, RMN-2D et -3D, spectroscopie COSY, ROESY et NOESY, techniques INEPT et DEPT, méthodes HECTOR, INADEQUATE et utilisation des réactifs lanthanides. Spectrométrie de masse (SM), ionisation par bombardement électronique (EI) et ionisation chimique (CI), bombardement d'atomes rapides (FAB), couplages CPG/SM, et SM/SM, ionisation Electrospray (ESI) et Thermospray (TSI). Le dernier chapitre explicite et commente des exemples significatifs de l'utilisation combinée de ces méthodes. It is generally accepted that photosynthesis, whereby solar is transformed into geobiochemical energy, is one of the most important processes in the bio sphere. When we realize that the human population, most of which is starving, wi I I double in 20-30 years, and that photosynthesis is in practice the only source (direct or indirect) of food not only for men, but for al I I iving beings, its im portance becomes even plainer. This fact was recognized from the outset of the International Biological Programme, when photosynthesis was selected as one of the principal problems to be concentrated on. The significance of the IBP in initiating a broader-based ap proach and worldwide collaboration need not be emphasized here; it is merely ne cessary to consider the rapid increase in the number of papers on photosynthesis since its inception. It is of fundamental importance for scientists working on photosynthesis to get information on what has been done in recent years in this discipl ine. Thus as complete as possible a bibl iography is badly needed. The complexity of this pro blem requires also that the progress of ecology, chemistry and physics, as far as they concern photosynthesis, be fol lowed. Such a bib I iography, covering at least the last ten years, wi I I be indispensable for final synthesis of the results of the IBP photosynthetic programme.

All existing introductory reviews of mineralogy are written accord ing to the same algorithm, sometimes called the "Dana System of Mineralogy". Even modern advanced handbooks, which are cer tainly necessary, include basic data on minerals and are essentially descriptive. When basic information on the chemistry, structure, optical and physical properties, distinguished features and para genesis of 200-400 minerals is presented, then there is practically no further space available to include new ideas and concepts based on recent mineral studies. A possible solution to this dilemma would be to present a book beginning where introductory textbooks end for those already famil iar with the elementary concepts. Such a volume would be tailored to specialists in all fields of science and industry, interested in the most recent results in mineralogy. This approach may be called Advanced Mineralogy. Here, an attempt has been made to survey the current possibilities and aims in mineral matter investigations, including the main characteristics of all the methods, the most important problems and topics of mineral ogy, and related studies. The individual volumes are composed of short, condensed chap ters. Each chapter presents in a complete, albeit condensed, form specific problems, methods, theories, and directions of investigations, and estimates their importance and strategic position in science and industry.
