Ce "Dictionnaire chimique et technologique des sciences biologiques" est en fait à la fois un dictionnaire de chimie organique et de tous les domaines directement connexes, à savoir entre autres : pharmacologie, biochimie, biologie moléculaire, chimie des substances naturelles. Il comporte de ce fait un important nombre d'entrées (environ 16 500) concernant aussi bien les méthodes analytiques et spectrométriques mises en jeu dans ces différentes disciplines que les techniques de transformation ou de mise en forme (galénique dans le cas de la pharmacie p.ex.). Il m'a paru également souhaitable, puisque la base de cet ouvrage est la chimie organique, d'y introduire le maximum de noms de réactions (réactions "à noms propres") avec leurs définitions. Enfin, on ne sera pas surpris de trouver dans ce dictionnaire un grand nombre d'acronymes, ces derniers étant largement utilisés dans les communications et ouvrages scientifiques et présentant éventuellement des problèmes de compréhension, en particulier pour des traducteurs scientifiques parfois mal familiarisés avec certaines techniques. En conclusion cet ouvrage s'adresse non seulement aux étudiants, chercheurs et enseignants, mais également à tout lecteur de livres techniques ou de vulgarisation, sans oublier enfin les traducteurs scientifiques.

This report describes methods recommended by Environment Canada for performing a sublethal marine toxicity test using gametes obtained from sea urchins or sand dollars. In the test, sperm are exposed to the substance being tested. Eggs are then added, and the success of fertilization under continued exposure to the same concentration of test substance is measured. The endpoint is decreased success of fertilization, described in terms of the concentration estimated to cause a specified percent inhibition or the lowest-observed-effect concentration and no-observed-effect concentration.
