S., Etc Of all the prominent men who have led the navy in my time, I was best acquainted with the subject of this Memoir, and with Sir Geoffrey Hornby. I do not think it is altogether fancy which has led me to see almost an infinite number of parallelisms in character between Sir Cooper Key and Nelson, and between Sir Geoffrey Hornby and Jervis Each of these men had a warm admiration for the other, though Sir Geoffrey Hornby cooled somewhat towards his friend in the way that is common - Nelson setting the example - when the latter became a member of the Board of Admiralty. Yet Sir Geoffrey Hornby put on record the highest and the truest appreciation of his brother admiral.
