The Police Composite Sketch

The Police Composite Sketch PDF Author: Stephen Mancusi
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 160761832X
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 234

Book Description
The police composite sketch, one of the most crucial investigative tools in law enforcement, is developed during a composite session—an intense display of communication and art in which the words of a witness are transformed into the features of a suspect. Despite the incredible technological leaps made in investigative work, the forensic science of composite sketching still relies on the basic elements of drawing skill, interpretive ability and the spoken word. The Police Composite Sketch is a comprehensive manual on how to conduct a complete composite session. Through an array of case studies, it details several disciplines that comprise this specialized forensic art, including composite sketching, image modification, age progression, facial comparison analysis, demonstrative evidence and postmortem/skull reconstruction. It also explores how to intuit insights that are often inadvertently revealed by witnesses, victims and perpetrators during the composite session. In addition, this book discusses other relevant topics, such as the three-stage drawing technique, witness and victim types, descriptive terminologies, managing composite sessions. Complete with numerous illustrations and drawing tips, this seminal work offers a general composite session philosophy and specific session strategies to both experienced and aspiring forensic artists as well as any lay reader intrigued by this fascinating skill.

The Anthropology of Police

The Anthropology of Police PDF Author: Kevin Karpiak
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 1317419081
Category : Social Science
Languages : en
Pages : 378

Book Description
What are the potential contributions of anthropology to the study of police? Even beyond the methodological particularities and geographic breadth of cultural anthropology, there are a set of conceptual and analytical traditions that have much to bring to broader scholarship in police studies. Including original and international contributions from both senior and emerging scholars, this pioneering book represents a foundational document for a burgeoning field of study: the anthropology of police. The chapters in this volume open up the question of police in new ways: mining the disciplinary legacies of anthropology in order to discover new conceptual tools, methods, and pedagogies; reworking relationships between "police," "public," and "researcher" in ways that open up new avenues for exploration at the same time as they articulate new demands; and retracing a hauntology that, through interactions with individuals and collectives, constitutes a body politic through the figure of police. Illustrating the various ways that anthropology enables a reassessment of the police/violence relationship with a broad consideration of the human stakes at the center, this book will be of interest to criminologists, sociologists, anthropologists, and the broad interdisciplinary field invested in the study of policing, order-making, and governance.

Book Description
Excerpt from The Medical Police and Rules and Regulations of the Boston Medical Association: With a Catalogue of the Officers and Members The consulting physician is never to visit without the attending one, unless by the desire of the latter, or when, as in sudden emergency, he is not to be found. No discus sion of the case should take place before the patient or his friends; and no prognostications should be delivered which were not the result of previous deliberation and concurrence. Theoretical debates, indeed, should gener ally be avoided in consultation, as occasioning perplexity and loss of time; for there may be much diversity of opinion on Speculative points, with perfect agreement on those modes of practice which are founded, not on hypoth esis, but on experience and observation. Physicians in consultation, whatever may be their private resentments or Opinions of one another, should divest themselves of all partialities, and think of nothing but what will most effectually contribute to the relief of those under their care, If a physician cannot lay his hand to his heart, and say that his mind is perfectly open to conviction, from what ever quarter it may come, he should in honor decline the consultation. All discussions and debates in consultations are to be held secret and confidential. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
