Complications in Kidney Transplantation PDF Author: Fahad Aziz
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3031135695
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 454

Book Description
This textbook of clinical cases moves beyond the science of transplant medicine and covers important transplant nephrology concepts. This book covers the diagnosis and treatment of many typical and atypical immunological and infectious post-transplant complications, such as acute antibody-medicated rejection in early and late post-transplant period, post-transplant cytomegalovirus infections, congestive heart failure after kidney transplant, and many other typical and atypical post-transplant infections. In each chapter, a case scenario is given for important post-transplant complications. The scenario is followed by a question and answer on the best investigation, the diagnosis, and a discussion of the best treatment option and outcomes. This stepwise learning process makes this book uniquely helpful to trainees learning how to treat their complicated transplant recipients systematically. This book is an accurate and straightforward guide to assist future and current transplant physicians, as well as the primary care physicians who deal with these complicated patients every day.

Book Description
The kidneys are two bean-shaped organs located below the rib cage. Each kidney is roughly the size of a fist. If the kidneys lose their function, waste products may accumulate and can potentially lead to life-threatening risks. The most frequent reason for requiring a kidney transplant is loss of kidney function, which causes kidney failure or end-stage chronic kidney disease. A kidney transplant is a type of surgery in which a diseased kidney is replaced with a healthy kidney. The kidney can be taken from either a living donor or deceased organ donor. There are some complications associated with kidney transplants, such as infection, temporary kidney failure, blockage of the blood vessels that supply the new kidney, and inappropriate functioning of the newly replaced kidney. After the transplant, medicines should be consumed to convince the immune system to not attack the transplant and accept it. This book contains some path-breaking studies on kidney transplantation. It provides significant information to help develop a good understanding of the medical complications associated with this medical procedure. Researchers and students in this field will be assisted by this book.

Multiple Primary Malignancies

Multiple Primary Malignancies PDF Author: Andrea Renda
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 8847010950
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 300

Book Description
In 2006, when my colleague Andrea Renda proposed multiple primary malignancies (MPM) as the subject of the Biennial Report to the 2008 Congress of the Italian - ciety of Surgery, I, together with the Steering Committee, quickly agreed. Recent progress in our understanding of the etiopathology of these neoplasms has led to - novative and significant progress on the clinical level. Importantly, the incidence of the onset of two or more tumors in the same patient suggests a more than casual - lationship. Furthermore, the occurrence of MPM derives from several different me- anisms—viral, iatrogenic, immunologic, environmental, and hereditary—such that any form of treatment must take into account the etiology of these tumors. After an epidemiological introduction, this monograph analyzes various aspects of multitumoral syndromes based on the experience of the Department of Surgical Sciences, along with that of other clinical departments of the University Federico II of Naples. In the discussion of inherited tumors, reference is made to the series of patients treated at the Department of Surgery at the University of Siena. The many topics that comprise this volume range from carcinogenesis to diagnostic strategies, and from epidemiology to innovations in imaging and endoscopic techniques. Among the clinical aspects, particular emphasis is given to sporadic and hereditary syndromes, as these patients are frequently treated by general surgery departments.
