Book Description
A mechanistic model of CO2 corrosion in the presence of HS has been developed. A model has been developed for the computation of corrosion rates of carbon steels in presence of carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulfide. The model included an electrochemical model for partial cathodic and anodic process on the metal surface. The partial processes taken into account by the model include the oxidation of iron and reduction of hydrogen ions, water, carbonic acid and hydrogen sulfide. The model has been verified by comparing calculated corrosion rates with corrosion model prediction software. The corrosion model prediction software consists of Freecorp, Norsok, Cassandra and ECE. The effects of various conditions such as temperature and pH value on corrosion rates has been analyze. The trends shown in the predictions agreed well with the general understanding of the CO corrosion process in the presence of...

Book Description
In order to ensure smooth and uninterrupted flow of oil and gas to the end users, it is imperative for the field operators, pipeline engineers and designers to be corrosion conscious as the lines and their component fittings would undergo material degradations due to corrosion. This book is a comprehensive theoretical research work on corrosion detection during oil and gas production and its mitigation. The chemistry of corrosion mechanism with various types of corrosion and associated corroding agents in the oil and gas industry were examined. Factors affecting each of the various forms of corrosion with methods of detecting them through the use of applicable sophisticated equipment were presented in this book. The measurement and mechanical specifications of this equipment for any reader who is interested in their fabrications were also presented. Also, methods of mitigating this menace in the oil and gas industry were also presented. However, it is recommended that consultations with process, operations, materials and corrosion engineers are necessary in the fitness of things to save billions of dollars wasted on corrosion in the oil and gas industries.
