The report describes initial attempts to characterize the transplantation antigens of the cornea. Three protein fractions were isolated from the cornea. Each of these fractions has been shown to possess transplantation antigen activity as demonstrated by its ability to induce a specific sensitization resulting in the accelerated destruction of a subsequent corneal graft. These antigenic fractions are also capable of stimulating the production of humoral antibodies.
