Book Description
We report the measurement of the lifetime of the D° meson. The direct observation of the decay vertex distribution in the process D° .-->. K−.pi. was made using a vertex chamber installed in the HRS detector at PEP. The measured lifetime is found to be tau/sub D°/ = .42 +- 09 +- 06ps. 5 refs., 4 figs.

Book Description
Results are presented on the use of a high-resolution drift chamber in the Mark II Detector at PEP to measure the lifetimes of D° and D/sup + -/ mesons produced in ee− annihilations at 29 GeV. Based on a sample of 74 events for the D° mesons and 23 events for the D/sup + -/ mesons, the lifetimes are found to be tau/sub D° = 4.7/sub -0.8//sup +0.9/ +- 0.5 x 10−13 s; tau/sub D/sup + -// = 8.9/sub -2.7//sup +3.8/ +- 1.3 x 10−13 s. The ratio of these lifetimes, tau/sub D°//tau/sub D/sup + -// = 1.9/sub -0.7//sup +0.9/ +- 0.3, indicates that the decays of these mesons cannot be explained by the simple spectator model of charmed particle decay.

Book Description
The neutral B meson lifetime has been measured with the data collected by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II storage ring during the year 2000 for a total integrated luminosity of 20.3 fb[sup -1]. The B[sup 0][yields] D*[sup -][pi][sup+] decays have been selected with a partial reconstruction method in which only the fast pion from the B[sup 0] decay and the slow pion from D*[sup -][yields][bar D][sup 0][pi][sup -] are reconstructed. The B[sup 0] lifetime has been measured to be 1.510[+-] 0.040[+-] 0.038 ps with a sample of 6971[+-] 241 reconstructed signal events.
