Book Description
We have studied hadron production in ee− annihilation at 29 GeV center-of-mass energy using the PEP-4 Time Projection Chamber Detector. The inclusive cross sections and mean multiplicities for .pi./sup + -/, K/sup + -/ and (p + anti p) production have been measured using ionization energy loss to separate particle species. We find on average 10.7 +- 0.6 .pi./sup + -/, 1.35 +- 13 K/sup + -/ and 0.60 +- 0.08 (p + anti p) per multihadron event. The differential cross section is well described by a number of Monte Carlo hadronization models. In addition, we have observed correlations in rapidity space for identified pions and kaons. Short-range KK correlations provide evidence for local flavor compensation during hadronization. Long-range .pi pi. and KK correlations indicate that the initial partons carry flavor. We also observe significant long-range .pi. K correlations as a result of heavy quark decays. 85 references, 67 figures, 11 tables.

Book Description
We employ Runs 1-4 off-peak data sample (about 21.5 fb−1) to produce the current world-best spectra and production rates measurements for three strangely-flavored baryons: the [Lambda] hyperon, the cascade hyperon, and the [Omega] hyperon. These improved measurements shall enable theoretical and phenomelogical workers to generate more realistic models for the hadronization process, currently one of the unresolved problem areas in the standard model of particle physics. This analysis was conducted using codes from release 16 series. We report the production rate at 10.54 GeV for the [Lambda] as 0.0900 ± 0.0006(stat.) ± 0.0039(sys.) per hadronic event. Our measured production rate at the same energy for the cascade hyperon is 0.00562 ± 0.00013(stat.) ± 0.00045(sys.) per hadronic event, while that for the [Omega] hyperon is 0.00027 ± 0.00004(stat.) ± 0.0008(sys.) per hadronic event. The spectral measurements for the respective particles also constitute current world-best measurements.

Book Description
We present measurements of the total production rates and momentum distributions of the charmed baryon [Lambda]{sub c} in ee− 2!hadrons at a center-of-mass energy of 10.54 GeV and in [Upsilon](4S) decays. In hadronic events at 10.54 GeV, charmed hadrons are almost exclusively leading particles in e+e− 2!c{bar c} events, allowing direct studies of c-quark fragmentation. We measure a momentum distribution for [Lambda]{sub c}+ baryons that differs significantly from those measured previously for charmed mesons. Comparing with a number of models, we find none that can describe the distribution completely. We measure an average scaled momentum of (x{sub p}) = 0.574 ± 0.009 and a total rate of N{sub [Lambda]{sub c}}{sup q{bar q}} = 0.057 ± 0.002(exp.) ± 0.015(BF) [Lambda]{sub c}+ per hadronic event, where the experimental error is much smaller than that due to the branching fraction into the reconstructed decay mode, pK− [pi]+. In [Upsilon](4S) decays we measure a total rate of N{sub {Lambda}{sub c}}{sup [Upsilon]} = 0.091 ± 0.006(exp.) ± 0.024(BF) per {Upsilon}(4S) decay, and find a much softer momentum distribution than expected from B decays into a {Lambda}{sub c}+ plus an antinucleon and one to three pions.
