Book Description
We have measured the cross sections for the 197Au([alpha], [gamma])2°1Tl and 197Au([alpha],2n)199Tl reactions in the 17.9- to 23.9-MeV energy range, and 197Au([alpha], n)2°°Tl reaction in the 13.4- to 23.9-MeV energy range using an activation technique. Thick-target yields for the 64Zn([alpha], [gamma])68Ge (7- to 14-MeV) and 63Cu([alpha], [gamma])67Ga (7-MeV) reactions were measured. For all measurements, natural elements were bombarded with He beams from the 88'' Cyclotron at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL). Irradiated samples were counted using a g-spectrometry system at LBNL's Low Background Facility. Measured 197Au([alpha], [gamma])2°1Tl cross-sections were compared with the NON-SMOKER theoretical values. The thick-target yields for the 64Zn([alpha], [gamma])68Ge and 63Cu([alpha], [gamma])67Ga reactions are also compared with the theoretical yield, calculated numerically using the energy dependent NON-SMOKER cross section data. In both cases, measured values are found to follow a trend of overlapping the predicted value near the alpha nucleus barrier height and fall below with a slowly widening difference between them in the sub barrier energy points.

Thick Target Measurement of the 40Ca(alpha, Gamma)44Ti Reaction Rate

Thick Target Measurement of the 40Ca(alpha, Gamma)44Ti Reaction Rate PDF Author:

Book Description
The thick-target yield for the 4°Ca(?,?)44Ti reaction has been measured for E{sub beam} = 4.13, 4.54, and 5.36 MeV using both an activation measurement and online?-ray spectroscopy. The results of the two measurements agree. From the measured yield a reaction rate is deduced that is smaller than statistical model calculations. This implies a smaller 44Ti production in supernova compared to recently measured 4°Ca(?,?)44Ti reaction rates.

Measurement of 107Ag(alpha, Gamma)111 In Cross Sections

Measurement of 107Ag(alpha, Gamma)111 In Cross Sections PDF Author:

Book Description
Cross sections have been measured for the 1°7Ag([alpha], [gamma])111In reaction at several a-particle energies between 7.8 MeV and 11.9 MeV. This reaction is of interest because it can provide a check on calculations of low-energy ([alpha], [gamma]) cross sections required for stellar nucleosynthesis predictions. Stacks of natural Ag foils of 1 mm thickness and 99.97% purity were bombarded with 4He beams. Following irradiation, the yields of the 171-keV and 245-keV photons produced in the 2.805 day electron-capture decay of the 111In product nucleus were measured off-line. The Ag foils were interleaved with 99.6% purity, 6 [mu]m thick natural Ti foils so that known cross sections for the 48Ti([alpha], n) reaction could be used to check the accuracy of the beam current integration. For any given beam energy, beam energy degradation in the foils resulted in lower effective bombarding energies for successive foils in the stack, enabling measurements to be made for several energies per irradiation. The measured cross sections are compared with published statistical-model calculations.
