Millennium Development Goals

Millennium Development Goals PDF Author: Matthew Clarke
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 113570404X
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 120

Book Description
In the year 2000, the international community agreed to a framework to address global poverty. This framework, known as the Millennium Development Goals, was time-bound with an end date of 2015. With this end now in sight, the international community is focusing on the achievement of these goals. However, it is also very important that consideration now turns to what will follow the MDGs after 2015. Millennium Development Goals: Looking Beyond 2015 provides a critical analysis of the MDGs and discusses a range of issues that must be considered by the international community in determining what poverty alleviation framework might replace the MDGs. This reflection is made even more imperative as the poverty landscape has shifted considerably since these original goals were made. This book was originally published as a special issue of the Journal of the Asia Pacific Economy.

MDG Report 2015

MDG Report 2015 PDF Author:
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Africa
Languages : en
Pages : 112

Book Description
This year's report highlights innovative policies and progammes which countries have adopted to accelerate progress on the MDGs, such as the deployment of community members as health workers, Niger's Ecole des Maris (School for Husbands) initiative, and the establishment of community-run and -funded schools. It is our hope that publicizing such success stories will not only help document policy innovations for SDG implementation, but also keep the focus on the unfinished business of the MDGs as countries and the global community make the transition to implementation of the post-2015 Development Agenda. The report demonstrates that sustaining and advancing beyond the gains made under the MDGs require new approaches which embrace all three dimensions of sustainability -- the environmental, economic and social. Progress under the SDGs will be assessed not only by the results achieved, but also by considering how they were achieved. Method will assume greater relevance in the post-2015 development paradigm.

Beyond the Midpoint

Beyond the Midpoint PDF Author:
Publisher: UN
ISBN:
Category : Basic needs
Languages : en
Pages : 178

Book Description
The publication is UNDP's forward-looking review of the factors that shape the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) progress, along with the constraints and bottlenecks that have hampered MDG achievement in many countries. The findings build on MDG assessments in 30 countries that were undertaken for this review. The report shows that while there has been notable progress on many targets and indicators across countries, it is clear that much more needs to be done for MDG achievements to be realised by 2015. Accelerated MDG achievements will depend on unlocking constraints in these four key factors that shape progress at the country level: policy choices and programme coherence; governance and capacity deficits; fiscal space constraints and aid effectiveness; national ownership: political will and partnerships. Since each country faces a unique context and set of challenges, breaking the bottlenecks will require a country specific approach.

Global Monitoring Report 2015/2016

Global Monitoring Report 2015/2016 PDF Author: World Bank;International Monetary Fund
Publisher: World Bank Publications
ISBN: 1464806705
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 307

Book Description
The Global Monitoring Report 2015/2016, produced by the World Bank Group in partnership with the International Monetary Fund, comes at an inflection point in both the setting of global development goals and the demographic trends affecting those goals. This year marks the end of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and the launching of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), while the World Bank Group has in parallel articulated the twin goals of sustainably ending extreme poverty and sharing prosperity. This report presents the latest global poverty numbers, based on the 2011 purchasing power parity (PPP) data, and examines the pace of development progress through the lens of the evolving global development goals. The special theme of this year's report examines the complex interaction between demographic change and development. With the number of children approaching a global ceiling of two billion, the world's population is growing slower. It is also aging faster, with the share of people of working age starting a decline in 2013. But the direction and pace of these trends vary starkly across countries, with sizeable demographic disparities between centers of global poverty (marked by high fertility) and drivers of global growth (marked by rapid aging). These demographic disparities are expected to deeply affect the pursuit of the post-2015 agenda, accentuating existing challenges and creating new opportunities.
