Introduction to Body Composition Assessment Using the Deuterium Dilution Technique with Analysis of Urine Samples by Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometry

Introduction to Body Composition Assessment Using the Deuterium Dilution Technique with Analysis of Urine Samples by Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometry PDF Author: International Atomic Energy Agency
Publisher:
ISBN: 9789201033109
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en

Book Description
"The IAEA has fostered the more widespread use of a stable isotope technique to assess body composition in different population groups to address priority areas in public health nutrition in Member States. It has done this by supporting national and regional nutrition projects through its technical cooperation programme and coordinated research projects over many years. This publication was developed by an international group of experts to provide practical hands-on guidance in the use of this technique in settings where analysis of stable isotope ratios in biological samples is to be made by isotope ratio mass spectrometry. The publication is targeted at new users of this technique, for example nutritionists, analytical chemists and other professionals. More detailed information on the theoretical background and the practical applications of state of the art methodologies to monitor changes in body composition can be found in IAEA Human Health Series No. 3, Assessment of Body Composition and Total Energy Expenditure in Humans by Stable Isotope Techniques."--Foreword.

Book Description
George Bowering and Greg Curnoe became friends in London, Ontario, in 1966. Bowering was a 30-year-old poet and university student and Curnoe was a 29-year-old painter who had dropped out of art school in Toronto to return to his place of birth. Their art was in its youth, their eyes and ears were wide open and their stomachs could withstand pots and pots of strong, black coffee. For 26 years they grew up parallel, inside each other’s work. Greg Curnoe was killed on his bicycle late in 1992, struck down in the middle of his bright career. This memoir was begun in London, Ontario, on November 20, 1992.

Infrared Spectral Interpretation

Infrared Spectral Interpretation PDF Author: Brian C. Smith
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 9780849324635
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 286

Book Description
This author's second volume introduces basic principles of interpreting infrared spectral data, teaching its readers to make sense of the data coming from an infrared spectrometer. Contents include spectra and diagnostic bands for the more common functional groups as well as chapters on polyester spectra and interpretation aids. Discussions include: Science of infrared interpretation Light and molecular vibrations How and why molecules absorb infrared radiation Peak heights, intensities, and widths Hydrocarbons, carbonyl groups, and molecules with C-N bonds Polymers and inorganic molecules The use of atlases, library searching, spectral subtraction, and the Internet in augmenting interpretation Each chapter presents an introduction to the nomenclature and structure of a specific functional group and proceeds with the important diagnostic bands for each group. Infrared Spectral Interpretation serves both novices and experienced practitioners in this field. The author maintains a website and blog with supplemental material. His training course schedule is also available online.

Mass Spectrometry of Organic Ions

Mass Spectrometry of Organic Ions PDF Author: F.W. McLafferty
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 032314277X
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 745

Book Description
Mass Spectrometry of Organic Ions covers the underlying theories and major applications of mass spectrometry. This 13-chapter book starts with a survey of the mechanisms by which organic ions can decompose and rearrange, as well as the generalized concept in terms of physical-organic chemistry. The discussion then shifts to the advantages and potential of mass spectrometry in structure determination by the elucidation of the empirical formulas of organic ions. Considerable chapters are devoted to the detailed correlations and mechanisms of the mass spectra of long-chain esters, alkylbenzenes, a variety of natural products, aliphatic compounds, and terpenes. The remaining chapters demonstrate the illustrative power of mass spectrometry in structure of petroleum, which is composed of hydrocarbon mixture. This book will be of great benefit to organic and analytical chemists, scientists, and students.
