Excerpt from Manual of Practical Indexing In offering the following pages I have been actuated by a desire to supply indexers with something approaching a method of guidance in their work. I am rash enough to consider that the customary apology indulged in by authors of manuals and text-books is unnecessary, for until quite recently little or nothing has been written on indexing form the practical standpoint, in a connected or comprehensive form.
