Excerpt from Manual for the Use of the Legislature of the State of New York, 1892: Prepared Pursuant to a Resolution of the Senate and Assembly of 1865 Resolved (if the assembly concur) That there be prepared, under the direction of the lt.-governor, Secretary of State, Clerks of the Senate and Assembly, a revision of the Legislative Manual to cor respond as regards form, binding, printing and indexing with the recommendations of the Literature Committee as presented. To the Senate January twenty-fourth, 1865, and that the Secretary of State cause the same to be published by contract in such form as the committee of revision may direct, and a copy thereof de livered as soon as practicable, after the commencement of each session of the Legislature, to each or the members, ofiicers and reporters thereof, and to each of the state officers, who are eu titled to copies of the session laws with the name of such member or omcor lettered on the cover, together with a map of the state, exhibiting the route of all canals and railroads that are finished, or in course of constructon. Legiglative [manual - The Secretary of State, at the expense of the State, shall annually prepare and publish the Legislative Manual, and a map of the State, exhibiting the route of all railroads and canals that are completed or in course of construction. The manual shall contain the Constitutions of the United States and of the State of New York, diagrams of the Senate and Assembly chambers, and such other information of the nature here tofore published therein, as he may consider useful,5 and shall be printed and bound in substantially the same style as heretofore. Within two weeks after the commencement of each regular session of the Legislature, and earlier if practicable, he shall deliver a copy of the manual and map to eachmember and officer of the Legislature, and to each State officer entitled to the session laws, with the name of.
