Magnetocumulative Generators

Magnetocumulative Generators PDF Author: Larry L. Altgilbers
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1461212324
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 430

Book Description
A discussion of explosive pulsed power systems and their applications, this book consists of 7 chapters. The first five describe the basic physics of these sources and their ancillary equipment, based on a manual for training engineers in Russia. Chapter 6 is a description of codes and methodologies used at Loughborough University in the UK to build flux compressors, while Chapter 7 covers two specific applications: high power lasers and high power microwave sources. The book introduces all types of explosive power sources and their ancillary equipment, the procedures required to build them, and specific applications.

Explosively Driven Pulsed Power

Explosively Driven Pulsed Power PDF Author: Andreas A. Neuber
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media

Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 282

Book Description
While the basic operating principles of Helical Magnetic Flux Compression Generators are easy to understand, the details of their construction and performance limits have been described only in government reports, many of them classified. Conferences in the field of flux compression are also dominated by contributions from government (US and foreign) laboratories. And the government-sponsored research has usually been concerned with very large generators with explosive charges that require elaborate facilities and safety arrangements. This book emphasizes research into small generators (less than 500 grams of high explosives) and explains in detail the physical fundamentals, construction details, and parameter-variation effects related to them.

Strong and Superstrong Pulsed Magnetic Fields Generation

Strong and Superstrong Pulsed Magnetic Fields Generation PDF Author: German A. Shneerson
Publisher: Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG
ISBN: 3110252570
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 440

Book Description
Strong pulsed magnetic fields are important for several fields in physics and engineering, such as power generation and accelerator facilities. Basic aspects of the generation of strong and superstrong pulsed magnetic fields technique are given, including the physics and hydrodynamics of the conductors interacting with the field as well as an account of the significant progress in generation of strong magnetic fields using the magnetic accumulation technique. Results of computer simulations as well as a survey of available field technology are completing the volume.

Magnetocumulative Generator

Book Description
An improved magnetocumulative generator is described that is useful for producing magnetic fields of very high energy content over large spatial volumes. The polar directed pleated magnetocumulative generator has a housing (100, 101, 102, 103, 104, 105) providing a housing chamber (106) with an electrically conducting surface. The chamber (106) forms a coaxial system having a small radius portion and a large radius portion. When a magnetic field is injected into the chamber (106), from an external source, most of the magnetic flux associated therewith positions itself in the small radius portion. The propagation of an explosive detonation through high-explosive layers (107, 108) disposed adjacent to the housing causes a phased closure of the chamber (106) which sweeps most of the magnetic flux into the large radius portion of the coaxial system. The energy content of the magnetic field is greatly increased by flux stretching as well as by flux compression. The energy enhanced magnetic field is utilized within the housing chamber itself.

Book Description
The properties of a coaxial magnetocumulative generator (MCG) in which the current increases exponetially with time are derived and discussed. Such an exponential MCG possess highly desirable performance characteristics that are readily derived and expressed in terms of simple formulas. It is concluded that an exponential MCG may approach a capability of delivering 100 megajoules to a 1 nanohenry load in 1 microsecond.
