Book Description
The tokamak sawtooth crash phase has been studied numerically using the toroidal magnetohydrodynamic initial value code FAR. A magnetic field line solver with high spatial resolution has been developed and incorporated. Global stochasticity has been observed during the nonlinear evolution of m/n= 1/1 resistive internal kink modes. The magnetic field line stochasticity is evaluated quantitatively by calculating Lyapunov exponents as well as spatial correlations of the field lines. The study is extended to explore thermal transport along stochastic magnetic field lines by comparing the pressure structure evolution with the microscopic combined structure of the regular and destroyed magnetic flux surfaces, and by inferring the effective perpendicular thermal diffusivity in the stochastic field regions.
