Magia Evocatoria raccoglie una sequenza di trattati brevi che istruiscono l’adepto ai principi fondamentali dell’evocazione. Sarà così possibile per l’iniziato conoscere e riconoscere i diversi spiriti, i demoni, le loro gerarchie e tutte le forze che fanno parte del mondo soprannaturale. Seguendo i trattati è possibile adempiere a tutte le condizioni, ambientali e interiori, necessarie per l’efficacia dei rituali su invocazioni ed esorcismi. Ampie sono le indicazioni di magia cerimoniale, che disciplina le invocazioni e i rituali nei giorni della settimana. Nell’opera sono indicati “segreti” di Magia Naturale secondo la tradizione di Alberto Magno. Questo testo si basa sulla traduzione della prima edizione, data alle stampe a Basilea nel 1575. Dalla prima edizione sono tratte anche le raffigurazioni dei sigilli angelici, con l’eccezione del “sigillo dei segreti di tutto il mondo”, che proviene dal manoscritto Sloane 3851 del British Museum. Le note presenti sono del curatore Jorg Sabellicus. Nel 1575 alla sua prima stampa il trattato uscì anonimo e suscitò immediatamente scalpore e scandalo fra i teologi locali, che cercarono di bloccarne la diffusione. Il pastore Simon Sulzer lo denunciò dal pulpito come opera eretica e chiese che le copie esistenti venissero bruciate insieme con i proprietari. Ci furono denunce contro lo stampatore Peter Perna, ma non sembra siano stati presi provvedimenti. Lo scandalo derivava anche dalle polemiche in corso sull’accoglimento da dare alle tesi di Paracelso nell’ambito della cultura religiosa protestante, ma malgrado l’ostilità, il testo continuò a diffondersi presso gli intellettuali. La sua fama venne consacrata dalla traduzione inglese di Robert Turner, pubblicata a Londra nel 1655. Enrico Cornelio Agrippa di Nettesheim (Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa di Nettesheim 1486-1535) è a detta di molti studiosi il più grande magus del Rinascimento. Nell’opera Omnia, accanto ai suoi testi più importanti, primo fra tutti il celebre trattato La Filosofia Occulta, vennero raccolti scritti considerati “minori” ma che già rivestivano un ruolo fondamentale presso gli studiosi di esoterismo, ruolo che s’accrebbe nei secoli successivi. Difficile dire se questi testi minori fossero proprio del Mago o da attribuire a suoi seguaci, nessuno comunque ne nega la validità. Col tempo, sono state le opere di Magia più diffuse e ristampate, in tutte le lingue. La più celebre di queste opere è il Libro del Comando, il più dettagliato manuale di Magia evocatoria che sia mai stato scritto. Do environmental problems and processes produce violence? Current U.S. policy about environmental conflict and scholarly work on environmental security assume direct causal links between population growth, resource scarcity, and violence. This belief, a staple of governmental decision-making during both Clinton administrations and widely held in the environmental security field, depends on particular assumptions about the nature of the state, the role of population growth, and the causes of environmental degradation.The conventional understanding of environmental security, and its assumptions about the relation between violence and the environment, are challenged and refuted in Violent Environments. Chapters by geographers, historians, anthropologists, and sociologists include accounts of ethnic war in Indonesia, petro-violence in Nigeria and Ecuador, wildlife conservation in Tanzania, and "friendly fire" at Russia's nuclear weapons sites. Violent Environments portrays violence as a site-specific phenomenon rooted in local histories and societies, yet connected to larger processes of material transformation and power relations. The authors argue that specific resource environments, including tropical forests and oil reserves, and environmental processes (such as deforestation, conservation, or resource abundance) are constituted by and in part constitute the political economy of access to and control over resources.
