Elinor (Lin) Ostrom was awarded the 2009 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences for her pathbreaking research on "economic governance, especially the commons"; but she also made important contributions to several other fields of political economy and public policy. Excerpt from Principles of Political Science As this book is meant to be a text-book for the earlier stages of political and economic studies I have not elaborate-d what may be called abnormal theories. A fair impersonal presentation of modern political theory has been my endeavour. Originally I meant to include several chapters on the history of political theory, but the book ran the danger of being overcrowded, so wherever possible I have incorporated historical sections in the individual subjects. Such detailed treatment is due to the nature of the course prescribed in India. Repetition of detail, e.g., under the Executive (chapter XVI), and under the individual governments (chapters XXI - XXVII) is also due to local exigencies.
