This volume identifies and documents the summit meetings between Canadian Prime Ministers and US Presidents from 1923 to 1973. Cloaked in a rhetoric all their own, these meetings have become an integral part of the symbolic and decisional process between Canada and the United States. The editor has selected documents from these meetings that recreate not only the issues of concern to the two nations, but the atmosphere in which the meetings took place.

Movie Roadshows
Author: Kim R. Holston
Publisher: McFarland
ISBN: 0786460628
Category : Performing Arts
Languages : en
Pages : 383
Book Description
This work examines a film distribution system paralleling the rise of early features and persisting until 1972, when Man of La Mancha was the final roadshow to require reserved seating. Synonymous with Hollywood's star-studded premieres, roadshows were longer and cost more than regular features, making the experience similar to attending the legitimate theater. Roadshows, often epic in subject matter, played selected (usually only one) theaters in major urban centers until demand decreased. De rigueur by the 1960s were musical overtures, intermissions, entre'acte and exit music and souvenir programs for sale in the lobby. Throughout the text are recollections by people who attended roadshows, including actor John Kerr and actresses Barbara Eden and Ingrid Pitt. The focus is on roadshows released in the United States but an appendix identifies international roadshows and films forecast but not released as roadshows. Included are plots, contemporary critical reaction, premiere dates, production background, and methods of promotion--i.e., the ballyhoo.

From Crusade to Hazard

ISBN: 0810859920

Pages : 198
Book Description
From Crusade to Hazard: The Denazification of Bremen Germany explains how American and British combat forces and military government officers occupied, administered, and denazified Bremen and its environs from 1945 to 1947. Legislation was determined first by the Americans, then by the British, and then again by the Americans, and the three distinct phases of this process profoundly affected the city. Throughout, denazification teams tried to find a middle ground between the American dictum to radically purge the whole population and the less ambitious British goal to jettison only the administration.
