Book Description
Master's Thesis from the year 2012 in the subject Economics - Macro-economics, general, grade: 1,7, University of applied sciences, Munich, language: English, abstract: Introduction: The 20th century is marked by the industrial growth of all nations around the world. As a result the global energy demand is tremendously rising and most likely this will increase the threat of global warming. Mankind must therefore find a way to feed the energy hunger of the growing nations. Due to this international development and the fear of nuclear plants1 the leading political parties of Germany have decided to focus on a nuclear free energy mix composed of renewable energy. This mix is seen as the problem solver and solution for the world wide energy demand. To push the development of the renewable energy sector a system of direct and indirect subsidies was therefore established by the leading political parties. Problem Definition: As stated before, the German approach is to push the renewable energy sector by direct or indirect subsidies. The photovoltaic sector in particular is very highly subsidised. So far everything looked smoothly for the development of this plan. However, the last months have been dominated by press releases regarding German solar panel producers going bankrupt, like Solar Millennium, Solon, Solarhybrid and Q-Cells. Objectives: This development is raising the question: What has happened in the solar panel industry sector and what has lead to this development? To answer this question it is necessary to analyse "the macroenvironment" of this industry. With these analyses it is then possible to determine the driving and influencing factors and forces in this industry sector. The findings of the analyses will be used to evaluate the attractiveness of the German solar panel industry. Finally it should be possible to answer the question. Methodology: Companies which are acting in an industry sector or "macroenvironment" are influenced by the economy at large;

Book Description
Project Report from the year 2010 in the subject Business economics - Industrial Management, grade: 1,0, Anglia Ruskin University, language: English, abstract: This report presents the findings of an independent business analysis project study of Q-Cells as part of the solar industry. The purpose of this assessment was to evaluate the company's current situation, as well as to maintain the economic and strategic sustainability of Q-Cells, one of the world's largest solar cell manufacturers. Furthermore, the report deals with a strategic issue, namely, globalisation and its influence on the company and on Q-Cells' two main competitors. This report summarizes the results of a business analysis project based on information collected during the field work. In detail, this report addresses the following issues: - Situational audit: What is the company's current situation? What are its resources and capabilities? What are its core competences? - Globalisation: What criteria define globalisation? What impact does globalisation have on Q-Cells? And how about on the company's two competitors, Solon and Conergy? - Interpretation: What are the strategic options for a sustainable strategy? What actions need to be taken in order to maintain a sustainable position? What effect will a possible strategic alignment have on the company and its numbers? Several approaches are applied within the analytical framework. The recommended measures will be critically appraised based on a literature review in order to identify the potential limitations and obstacles the business analysis project may face. The following frameworks/tools are applied to the different areas of research: - Situational audit: Resources and capabilities, Porter's 8 Forces analysis, PESTLE, - Strategic alignment: Key success factors and strategy map. To ensure that the recommended actions are feasible, suitable, and adaptable to future developments, key figures will be used for the measurements.

Book Description
Seminar paper from the year 2010 in the subject Business economics - Operations Research, grade: 1,0, Anglia Ruskin University (Business School), language: English, abstract: The purpose of this Business Analysis Project is to evaluate the current situation of the so-lar branch, especially the German company Conergy Group. The aim is to show the cur-rent changes within the branch and the influence on the business strategy of solar com-panies. Furthermore the analysis will consider the following issues: - A situational audit of the branch and the Conergy Group. This will contain an analysis of the macro- and micro-environments supported by a PESTLE and Porter 8 Forces Analysis - Strategic Alignment: Identification of the key success factors (KSF) of the branch, evaluate the performance of Conergy and compare this with 2 other big players in the solar branch. From this information, I will identify potential changes inside of Conergy and develop a strategy map. Another aim is the critical appraisal of the key figures and the current strategy of Conergy, supported by using approved analysing methods in a literature review in order to show potential improvements as well as recommend strategy adaptations. As a basis for the analysis of the key figures I will use the 2009 third quarter report and the 2008 annual re-port. The advantage of using this quarterly report and comparing it to the 2008 annual report is that the effects of the economical crisis in 2009 are visible.

Book Description
In spite of the impressive development of the gasoline price, however, a lot of people still drive their cars, rapidly growing energy prices do not hinder people to heat and global warming is not taken for serious until now. But it should be noted that a new trend is recognized and we are just at the beginning. The importance to optimize this trend, to analyse every detail and to develop innovations, is shown and thus, a new partner for enterprises was born - the sun. This thesis has been produced to examine certain projects concerning the solar producing industry in Germany, in the past, the present and in the future. It deals with aspects to describe the former and current situation, but also future scenarios are given in the report. In this respect, a methodology is worked out where an introduction describes the scope of the assignment as well as its objectives and how to reach them. Secondly, a chapter is made for describing the solar panel industry in Germany with basic information, definitions and explanations. Different factors play an important role in this respect. Furthermore, the region with the most solar panel producing companies, the Sachsendreieck in the Eastern part of Germany is mentioned and analysed. Also a company, named Q Cells, Germany s biggest solar cells producer, settled down over there. From a management perspective, improvements can be made, future developments can be expected with experts interviews from this sector and the Research and Development department is just at its start. To widen this topic within the European Union, the EU Objectives 2020 also give an incentive to work on this topic, because the goals seem to be realizable but only with a lot of effort and help from outside. In this respect, a focus group from different EU countries was asked if they would apply a certain strategy from a successful area like the Sachsendreieck . If this is the case, chapter 4 is enlightening more. As it is analyzed, there is still a lot of room, not in finding out new processes and procedures, but about optimizing, to be prepared for the future s run.

The process of change in the German wind industry

The process of change in the German wind industry PDF Author: Sylvia Böcker

Book Description
Scientific Essay from the year 2012 in the subject Energy Sciences, , language: English, abstract: The paper identifies the necessity of a deep change process in the German wind industry. The need for change in the wind industry was given by the decision of the German government to finish nuclear energy production in the year 2022. The Fukushima accident lead to this decision and showed dramatically the urgency of finding solutions for a stable and sustainable energy production based on renewable energies. The advantages of using decentralized wind energy which is possible through installation of small wind turbines is so far less acknowledged in politics and economics. The amount of investment and the market share of small wind technology are minimal against their potential and compared to the investments which are put in centralized wind energy production with big 3 bladed turbines. The reduction of the costs for the transmission lines and the electrician transmission losses could be a major economical factor to the point that one could have a parallel grid to fulfil the requirements for power of special regions. To increase the percentage of decentralised produced wind energy it is necessary to identify the key reasons which minimise the success of the innovations in the field of small wind technology. Key factors are f.e. high costs for development and high governmental regulations as well as the lack of suitable technology. Another reason can be seen in the thinking of the core persons and decision makers in this business field as well as in politics. To be able to analyse the complex situation and get an understanding of the interconnection of different levels in this industry the systemic model by David Kantor is used which includes the normally less acknowledged level of mental models in economics.

Macro-environmental Policy

Macro-environmental Policy PDF Author: G. Huppes
Publisher: Elsevier Publishing Company

Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 448

Book Description
The central theme of this book is how macro-environmental policy can be developed which does not prescribe or suggest specific technologies and products but realises the environmental quality desired by changing the general context. and the normative principles for policy design and evaluation, (the first two parts) form the analytic core. The framework for analysis gives a classification of instruments in terms of permutations of a limited number of defining elements. The normative principles guide choices in instrument design and, as the flexible response strategy, guide their application in specific policies. Detailing two main new instruments - the standard method for LCA and the substance deposit - and applying the instrument strategy as developed to the cases make up the next two parts. Social scientists and policy scientists might concentrate on the framework, while those engaged in the theory of policy development and policy analysis, including strategic analysis, might find items of prime interest in the part on principles. Those interested in specific environmental problems may find particular value in the extensive case studies.
