Book Description
"This report describes an Early Devonian brachiopod fauna and the stratigraphy of the source beds, a richly fossiliferous limestone unit referred to as the 'Delorme' Formation that outcrops on Cathedral Mountain, near Virginia Falls on the South Nahanni River, southwestern District of Mackenzie. A part of the report discusses and illustrates the associated conodonts, providing supplementary information on conodont zones represented and an independent dating of the brachiopods." --

Stratigraphy and Conodonts of Upper Silurian and Lower Devonian Rocks in the Environs of the Boothia Uplift, Canadian Arctic Archipelago
Author: R. Thorsteinsson
Publisher: Geological Survey of Canada
ISBN:
Category : Nature
Languages : en
Pages : 92
Book Description
"Boothia Uplift is a major structural feature that extends north from Boothia Peninsula to the northwestern extremity of Devon Island. On Somerset Island and Boothia Peninsula it consists of Precambrian crystalline rocks and Proterozoic sediments that are flanked by Cambrian to Lower Devonian platform-type sedimentary rocks. This report deals with strata of Late Silurian to Early Devonian age, the time of the principal crustal movements that produced the Uplift." --

Biostratigraphy and Conodont Faunas of Upper Ordovician Through Middle Devonian Rocks, Eastern Arctic Archipelago
Author: Teruya Uyeno
Publisher: Geological Survey of Canada
ISBN:
Category : Conodonts
Languages : en
Pages : 224
Book Description
"The lower and middle Paleozoic strata of the eastern Arctic Archipelago change rapidly laterally from thin, shallow-water platform deposits to thicker, deeper water basinal deposits. The difficulty in correlating such strata has been overcome in part through well controlled conodont zonation, and by supplementary dating using palynomorphs and megafaunas. Such precise dating and correlation are essential for success in the search for petroleum and other mineral deposits. The study will also help refine calibration of the geological time scale in other parts of the world." --

Pages : 348
Book Description
This compilation is a synthesis of Ordovician-Triassic conodont research undertaken in the Canadian Cordillera during the past decade. The studies include an overview of the record in Western Canada; a review of the paleontology; and descriptions of conodonts from the Cordillera Road River group in northern Yukon Territory, from the eastern and northern Canadian cordillera, of the Palliser Formation in the Rocky Mountains, and from the Cache Creek Complex in south-central B.C.

The Prairie Creek Embayment and Lower Paleozoic Strata of the Southern Mackenzie Mountains
Author: D. W. Morrow
Publisher: Ottawa, Canada : Geological Survey of Canada
ISBN:
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 214
Book Description
Report dealing primarily with a rock sequence of Middle Silurian to Middle Devonian age in the northeastern part of the Virginia Falls map area and the basinal shales of the Road River formation farther south and west. Field work was done during the summers of 1975, 1976 and 1981. A total of 4 months, with helicopter support were spent in the field, and most of the fieldwork was concentrated in the area around Prairie Creek. Forty-two stratigraphic sections of the Ordovician-Devonian sequence were measured. Lithostratigraphic units were defined within these sections and their distribution was mapped from numerous ground tranverses. Data from 3 surface sections and traverses were supplemented with information from 6 surface sections from Banff Oil Ltd. and 2 subsurface well sections.
