Book Description
Report dealing primarily with a rock sequence of Middle Silurian to Middle Devonian age in the northeastern part of the Virginia Falls map area and the basinal shales of the Road River formation farther south and west. Field work was done during the summers of 1975, 1976 and 1981. A total of 4 months, with helicopter support were spent in the field, and most of the fieldwork was concentrated in the area around Prairie Creek. Forty-two stratigraphic sections of the Ordovician-Devonian sequence were measured. Lithostratigraphic units were defined within these sections and their distribution was mapped from numerous ground tranverses. Data from 3 surface sections and traverses were supplemented with information from 6 surface sections from Banff Oil Ltd. and 2 subsurface well sections.
