Love’s Great Price is the story of two families who collided, wrestled, got knocked down, stood up, faced each other, loved each other, and made the best of what God had blessed them with. Born with a proverbial silver spoon in her mouth, Crystal Cummings had wanted for very little during her growing-up years. But life as she knew it came to a grinding halt the day her parents died in a plane crash in Italy—followed closely by a series of unstoppable events orchestrated by God to remake her, restore her, and redeem her: A handsome surgeon comes to town—pursued by a half-brother who wants him dead; A young girl’s life is forfeited in a hit and run mishap; An ex-employee comes to the rescue—eight hours after he’d been canned; An unwed mother becomes part of the family ... The Passion of Love in the Summa Theologiae of Thomas Aquinas

The Passion of Love in the Summa Theologiae of Thomas Aquinas PDF Author: Daniel Joseph Gordon
Publisher: CUA Press
ISBN: 0813236851
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 236

Book Description
This book is an introduction to three questions on love according to St. Thomas Aquinas (Summa Theologiae I?II, qq. 26?28). These three questions reflect on the nature of love (q. 26), the causes of love (q. 27), and the effects of love (q. 28). It is thus an introduction to the entire phenomenon of love, both as a bodily passion and an act of the will. The purpose is to present the Thomistic and broadly scholastic account of human and divine love from a philosophical and theological perspective. It aims to be a theological and philosophical study of the topic, useful both for a graduate/professional audience, as part of an undergraduate or graduate course, and perhaps for the educated reader. The thesis of the book is that, contrary to contemporary conceptions, not all loves are created equal. Some loves perfect us and some loves corrupt us. The worth of a love depends on its object and end. St. Thomas thus presents an objective and teleological account of human and divine love that is of philosophical and theological interest. The method is broadly exegetical, presenting a careful reading of the text and supplying the philosophical and theological background which the text of Aquinas assumes. The scope of the work is limited to three questions (ST I?II, qq. 26?28). References to interpretative disputes of Aquinas and references to further resources in the secondary literature will be mostly limited to the footnotes, making the body of the text accessible to more readers.

The Spiritual Journey of a Coptic Christian Brain Surgeon: Views and Reflections

The Spiritual Journey of a Coptic Christian Brain Surgeon: Views and Reflections PDF Author: Ramsis F. Ghaly MD
Publisher: iUniverse
ISBN: 1532059655
Category : Self-Help
Languages : en
Pages : 1600

Book Description
Deeper and deeper as the human spirit roams with fascination unto Divinity. Never enough roaming! This is my eleventh book of Christianity and the human brain. As a neurosurgeon for thirty years, I have found unlimited bonds between the Christian Divinity and the human brain. My neurosurgical humanity eagerly desires to explore Divinity. Since my childhood goes back decades and is deeply rooted, I meditate with my Christian brain searching for common understanding of spirituality in humanity. It is hard to describe this through each book and I find myself seeking more Divine clarifications. My meditation is achieved thorough reading the Holy Bible with my neurosurgical human brain. I try to peel my deep thoughts layer by layer as if I am dissecting the human brain in neurosurgery in actual life. The book touches on many timely aspects of our human life with personal spiritual views and poems. The book consists of Twelve major Sections and each section ranges from 8 to 23 chapters with total of 137 chapters. The main sections include: My Christian Dreams in Neurosurgery, Monasticism in My Life, Mothers and Children: Angels Living, Human Brains and Spirituality, Jesus Love, The Persecuted Christ and Christ Followers, Royalty and Heavens with Jesus, Last Hours in humanity, Spiritual Reflections, Views and Poems, Law and the Spirit, Sacred Medicine and Patients Testimonials. As a Coptic Christian from Egypt, I was raised in keeping up with strong Christian Orthodox practice in daily living. Perhaps the strength of the book is incorporating Jesus the Almighty God in everything I do, not only in daily living but also with my patients in Neurosurgery practice. There is a dire need of such a book especially in an era where Christianity continued to be persecuted worldwide and denied in a daily basis as evidenced through public restraining of Lord Jesus Christ in our daily life. The human brain and Neurosurgery are in Jesus God as Christ the Lord is in human brain and Neurosurgery. I hope for the reader to find spiritual use of the book and a closer relationship to our Holy Trinity: God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 418

Book Description
First Love Devotions is written from the authors rich experience of over fifty years as a pastor and teacher. One of the dangers a pastor faces is becoming mechanical and professional and losing the first love that motivated him to devote his life as a servant of God. The best safeguard against that is maintaining a loving, intimate daily fellowship with Jesus as you seek his guidance in understanding the scripture. If you find your love for Jesus waning, do a thorough job of repentance as you renew and cultivate this relationship. Each first-love devotion treats a passage of scripture and gives insight based on prayerful reflection as it relates to personal experience. In addition to personal spiritual benefits, the Christian worker will find a wealth of topics, sermon prompts, and illustrative materials that may be shared with others.
