Excerpt from Livestock and Poultry, Vol. 61: Situation and Outlook Report; August 1993 Livestock and poultry production in 1994 is expected to be record high again as producers' returns have been generally favorable. Excessive rainfall and flooding conditions in the Midwest have reduced prospects for 1993 corn and soybean crops. Livestock and Poultry Situation and Outlook Report, Vol. 36

Publisher: Forgotten Books
ISBN: 9780428985189
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 52

Book Description
Excerpt from Livestock and Poultry Situation and Outlook Report, Vol. 36: July 1989 Commercial pork production for all of 1989 is estimated at billion pounds, up 2 percent from 1988 and the most since 1980. Barrow and gilt prices are expected to average $40 to $43 per cwt, compared with $43 in 1988. Retail pork prices may average around per pound, down 3 to 5 cents from a year ago. Beef production is projected at billion pounds, down 3 percent from 1988. Choice slaughter steer prices are expected to average $71 to' $74 per cwt, compared with $70 in 1988. Feeder steer prices may average about the same as 1988's $84 per cwt. The relatively high feeder cattle prices should provide a incentive for cow-calf producers to retain heifers to rebuild their herds. Retail beef prices may average 10 to 15 cents higher than 1988's per pound. Relatively high returns are encouraging broiler producers to expand production about 6 percent in 1989 to billion pounds. In 1989, 12-city wholesale broiler prices are expected to average 60 to 63 cents per pound, compared with 56 cents in 1988. Turkey production is expected to increase about 4 percent for all of 1989, after a 6percent rise in 1988. Although tur key prices are up from a year ago, high feed costs have cur tailed producers' tetums. Wholesale hen prices in the eastern region are expected to average 68 to 71 cents per pound, compared with 61 cents in 1988. Relatively high tur key prices combined with lower feed costs will boost producers' returns in second-half 1989. Egg production is projected to decline about 2 percent in 1989, following a slight decline in 1988. Egg prices are expected to average 73 to 76 cents per dozen in 1989, up sharply from 1988's 62 cents. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Air Emissions from Animal Feeding Operations

Air Emissions from Animal Feeding Operations PDF Author: National Research Council
Publisher: National Academies Press
ISBN: 0309168643
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 286

Book Description
Air Emissions from Animal Feeding Operations: Current Knowledge, Future Needs discusses the need for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to implement a new method for estimating the amount of ammonia, nitrous oxide, methane, and other pollutants emitted from livestock and poultry farms, and for determining how these emissions are dispersed in the atmosphere. The committee calls for the EPA and the U.S. Department of Agriculture to establish a joint council to coordinate and oversee short - and long-term research to estimate emissions from animal feeding operations accurately and to develop mitigation strategies. Their recommendation was for the joint council to focus its efforts first on those pollutants that pose the greatest risk to the environment and public health.
