Pour comprendre le sens du "qu'est-ce qu'être musulman", nous menons une réflexion à plusieurs niveaux. Tout d'abord par un retour sur la façon dont les théologiens musulmans ont abordé la question de l'appartenance, pour interroger la pertinence de la distinction entre "non croyants", "non pratiquants" ou "pratiquants". Ensuite, après un aperçu historique des associations musulmanes en France, nous focalisons notre attention sur la "norme islamique" telle qu'elle est reconstruite par les individus, à partir de leur socialisation religieuse et des "contextes" de vie alimentant leur réflexion métaphysique. Enfin, nous définissons une typologie originale des rapports à l'islam, qui indique dans quelle mesure, au delà de la diversité des modes du croire, il est possible d'affirmer que les cadres de références des jeunes musulmans sont largement sécularisés, et quelles sont les données qui permettent de comprendre les passages d'un mode d'adhésion à un autre.

The codex Parisino-petropolitanus is one of the earliest witnesses of the handwritten transmission of the Qurʾanic text which has survived to this day. The various fragments which were part of the original manuscript are scattered among various collections; once put together, they provide a unique picture of the state of the text during the 7th century (orthography and textual peculiarities) and of the circumstances in which the canonical version as we know it today took shape physically. The present study, first of its kind, paves the way for a more accurate understanding of the beginning of Islam, based on a significant document, and of the evolution of the Qurʾan during that period.
