Fernand Hue, in his work entitled Aux Pays de Petrole, ' tells us that M. Sainte-claire Deville's furnace for burning petroleum in a liquid state was the means of enabling Paris to keep several of its large factories going during that' terrible year, as well as to grind its flour by steam.
