Mechanics of Poroelastic Media
Author: A.P.S. Selvadurai
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 9401586985
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 389
Book Description
In Mechanics of Poroelastic Media the classical theory of poroelasticity developed by Biot is developed and extended to the study of problems in geomechanics, biomechanics, environmental mechanics and materials science. The contributions are grouped into sections covering constitutive modelling, analytical aspects, numerical modelling, and applications to problems. The applications of the classical theory of poroelasticity to a wider class of problems will be of particular interest. The text is a standard reference for researchers interested in developing mathematical models of poroelasticity in geoenvironmental mechanics, and in the application of advanced theories of poroelastic biomaterials to the mechanics of biomaterials.

Structural Dynamic Systems Computational Techniques and Optimization
Author: Cornelius T. Leondes
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 9789056996567
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 262
Book Description
Conventional seismic design has been based on structural strength in the initial design of structures, resulting in lateral force resisting systems with sufficient strength to be able to absorb and dissipate the seismic. For important structures such as urban high speed road systems, high rise buildings, hospitals, airports and other essential structures which must be quite functional after an earthquake, modern seismic structural design techniques have been developed with a view toward eliminating or significantly reducing seismic damage to such structures. This volume is a comprehensive treatment of the issues involved in modern seismic design techniques for structure with a view to significantly enhancing their capability of surviving earthquakes to an adequate degree, i.e., enhancing the ability of structural systems to withstand high level earthquakes.

Advances in Continuum Mechanics
Author: Otto Brüller
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3642488900
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 513
Book Description
Recognized authors contributed to this collection of original papers from all fields of research in continuum mechanics. Special emphasis is given to time dependent and independent permanent deformations, damage and fracture. Part of the contributions is dedicated to current efforts in describing material behavior with regard to, e.g., anisotropy, thermal effects, softening, ductile and brittle fracture, porosity and granular structure. Another part deals with numerical aspects arising from the implementation of material laws in the calculations of forming processes, soil mechanics and structural mechanics. Applications of theory and numerical methods belong to the following areas: Comparison with experimental results from material testing, metal forming under thermal and dynamic conditions, failure by damage, fracture and localized deformation modes. The variety of treated topics provides a survery of the actual research in these fields; therefore, the book is addressed to those interested in special problems of continuum mechanics as well as to those interested in a general knowledge.

Dissertation
Author: Martin Bransch
Publisher: Lulu.com
ISBN: 3000371168
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 166
Book Description
This work presents a new method for the calculation of elasto-plastic building ground deformations and elasto-plastic building ground failure with included wave propagation in the ground. The presented procedure is a hybrid method, based on several common calculation methods. Included is the nonlinear calculation with the finite element method (FEM), a nonlinear HHT-a method and the scaled boundary finite element method (SBFEM). Focuses of this work are the implementation of an elasto-plastic soil model with isotropic hardening, the derivation and implementation of a nonlinear HHT-a method with full Newton-Raphson iteration, and the implementation of these methods and the SBFEM in a nonlinear overall calculation scheme. Here, the overall calculation scheme represents a new calculation method in the time domain, because the combination of the named methods does not yet exist. The applicability of the developed method is given with the help of several examples of different complexity.
