Non-Linear Response Theory and Hydrodynamics of Charged and Neutral Media

Non-Linear Response Theory and Hydrodynamics of Charged and Neutral Media PDF Author: George Pavlov
Publisher: Cambridge Scholars Publishing
ISBN: 1527540634
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 212

Book Description
This book develops a theory of the nonlinear response of densely charged and neutral media to electric and electromagnetic fields and gradients of hydrodynamic variables. It considers phenomena related to the nonlinear response of the media to plasma echo, transformation of waves, and parametric and second harmonic generation of radiation, and determines exact expressions and calculation methods for Burnett transport coefficients describing heat, mass, momentum and charge flows. It also discusses the use of transport coefficients in hydrodynamic tasks outside the framework of Euler’s theorem on homogeneous functions. It analyses in detail the thermal regimes calculated using linear and non-linear transport coefficients in the cavity of a gas-phase nuclear reactor, and in the shock layer of a spacecraft moving in the atmosphere of Mars during a soft landing on the planet. The book will appeal to researchers, as well as postgraduate and undergraduate students, working and specializing in the field of physics and gas dynamics of densely charged and neutral media characterized by chemical reactions.

Nonlinear Nonequilibrium Thermodynamics I

Nonlinear Nonequilibrium Thermodynamics I PDF Author: Rouslan L. Stratonovich
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 9783540552161
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 0

Book Description
This book gives the first detailed coherent treatment of a relatively young branch of statistical physics - nonlinear nonequilibrium and fluctuation-dissipative thermo dynamics. This area of research has taken shape fairly recently: its development began in 1959. The earlier theory -linear nonequilibrium thermodynamics - is in principle a simple special case of the new theory. Despite the fact that the title of this book includes the word "nonlinear", it also covers the results of linear nonequilibrium thermodynamics. The presentation of the linear and nonlinear theories is done within a common theoretical framework that is not subject to the linearity condition. The author hopes that the reader will perceive the intrinsic unity of this discipline, and the uniformity and generality of its constituent parts. This theory has a wide variety of applications in various domains of physics and physical chemistry, enabling one to calculate thermal fluctuations in various nonlinear systems. The book is divided into two volumes. Fluctuation-dissipation theorems (or relations) of various types (linear, quadratic and cubic, classical and quantum) are considered in the first volume. Here one encounters the Markov and non-Markov fluctuation-dissipation theorems (FDTs), theorems of the first, second and third kinds. Nonlinear FDTs are less well known than their linear counterparts.

Perspectives of Nonlinear Dynamics: Volume 1

Perspectives of Nonlinear Dynamics: Volume 1 PDF Author: E. Atlee Jackson
Publisher: CUP Archive
ISBN: 9780521426329
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 532

Book Description
The dynamics of physical, chemical, biological, or fluid systems generally must be described by nonlinear models, whose detailed mathematical solutions are not obtainable. To understand some aspects of such dynamics, various complementary methods and viewpoints are of crucial importance. In this book the perspectives generated by analytical, topological and computational methods, and interplays between them, are developed in a variety of contexts. This book is a comprehensive introduction to this field, suited to a broad readership, and reflecting a wide range of applications. Some of the concepts considered are: topological equivalence; embeddings; dimensions and fractals; Poincaré maps and map-dynamics; empirical computational sciences vis-á-vis mathematics; Ulam's synergetics; Turing's instability and dissipative structures; chaos; dynamic entropies; Lorenz and Rossler models; predator-prey and replicator models; FPU and KAM phenomena; solitons and nonsolitons; coupled maps and pattern dynamics; cellular automata.

Book Description
From the Preface: "The purpose of this book is to present and apply a language and to discuss methods which make it very convenient to exploit such analogies, and which are uniquely suited to describe and explain non-equilibrium phenomena in a rich variety of many-particle systems: the language of time correlation functions and linear response theory."
