Both the letter and the affidavit, dated August 19, and 20, 1814 respectively, are directed to Governor of Georgia Peter Early (1813-1815) and concern the appearance of British war ships and information respecting their intentions to land in Florida and march up to Savannah. McCobb reports that the officers intend to recruit Negroes and Indians and arm them against the Americans. It is also reported that one officer had expressed the opinion that General (Andrew) Jackson committed "cruelties" on the Indians recently.
