In 1833 the two brothers left Scotland for America on different ships. Thomas went to New York, and William Richard to Quebec. By 1835 Thomas had returned to Scotland. In 1835 William Richard Grahame married Otilia Nighswander in Vaughan, Ont., Canada. They had eight children born between 1838 and 1853. He married (2) Elizabeth Morrison.
