BUT : Faire un état des lieux, avec les parents, du rôle du médecin généraliste dans l’alimentation du nourrisson. Elaborer des fiches conseils pour les parents. METHODE : Il s’agit d’une étude qualitative basée sur un questionnaire semi-dirigé de mères dans un cabinet parisien de médecine générale. RESULTATS : L’information prénatale est encore insuffisante à propos de l’alimentation mais efficace dans la promotion de l’allaitement maternel. Les mères connaissent alors peu les bienfaits de l’allaitement. Ensuite, en post partum, elles consultent en général pour des problèmes mammaires ou pour le choix du lait mais trouvent peu d’aides lorsque l’alimentation devient compliquée. Le conseil reste flou lors de la diversification : elles voudraient être plus guidées car considèrent que la santé se joue dès le plus jeune âge. Selon elles, le médecin généraliste n’accorderait que trop peu de temps au conseil alimentaire et ne l’aborderait pas systématiquement. Les mamans n’osent pas le solliciter, ne sachant pas toujours qu’il est qualifié pour le suivi infantile et consultent souvent en premier lieu la PMI ou le pédiatre. Bien qu’elles s’estiment satisfaites du médecin généraliste, elles avouent utiliser des sources d’informations complémentaires (internet ...). Elles ont peu de traces écrites et le carnet de santé est lu comme une « bonne roue de secours ». Elles souhaiteraient des fiches conseils mensuelles ou des consultations dédiées à l’alimentation. CONCLUSION : Les mamans sont soucieuses de l’alimentation de leur nourrisson et le médecin généraliste un précieux allié. Mais de nombreux progrès doivent avoir lieu dans ce domaine.
