La relation formation-emploi est un enjeu stratégique par rapport aux problèmes que connaît le marché du travail. L’auteur évalue le bien-fondé de cette position à la lumière du traitement que l’économie (entendue sous ses deux sens de méthode d’approche et de système social) réserve à cette relation. Reste que l’on observe au sein d’un même niveau de formation une forte diversité des trajectoires professionnelles. L’entreprise apparaît alors, tant à travers la théorie économique qu’à travers les faits, comme étant un agent essentiel pour comprendre cette diversité. L’auteur en appelle donc à éviter la spécialisation accentuée par la formation initiale.
