Résumé : la médecine bucco-dentaire est un exercice minutieux comportant de nombreuses contraintes pour l'œil du chirurgien-dentiste. L'organe dentaire et ses structures adjacentes, composés de multiples détails sont difficiles d'accès à la vue du praticien. Les yeux sont très sollicités, ce qui peut générer une fatigue oculaire croissante au fur et à mesure de la journée, mais aussi des années. De plus, la bouche est un milieu septique de part la présence de salive et/ou de sang. Les yeux du chirurgien-dentiste sont directement concernés par les accidents d'exposition au sang. L'utilisation d'instruments rotatifs à grande vitesse entraîne également un risque de projections diverses. Ce mémoire explique les problèmes oculaires auxquels sont confrontés les chirurgiens-dentistes dans l'exercice de leur métier, que ce soit des problèmes de vue classiques, de la fatigue oculaire, de l'importance de l'éclairage, ou encore des projections pouvant atteindre les yeux du praticien. Puis, il présente plusieurs recommandations visant à améliorer le confort et la sécurité visuels du chirurgien-dentiste.

Le diagnostic des manifestations oculaires d'origine dentaire est encore aujourd'hui délicat car "La seule preuve qu'un phénomène joue le rôle de cause à effet par rapport à un autre, c'est qu'en supprimant le premier, on fait cesser le second" (Claude Bernard).
