Cross-Cultural Management Revisited

Cross-Cultural Management Revisited PDF Author: Philippe d'Iribarne
Publisher: Oxford University Press
ISBN: 0192599402
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 336

Book Description
Drawing on thirty years of empirical research, this book reveals the diversity of managerial practices that may be observed throughout the world, even in places where companies are using management methods that appear identical. Using data from over fifty countries, it presents a new theoretical approach to cultural diversity whereby culture is considered a filter through which people understand reality and give it meaning. This interpretative perspective reminds us that interactions within organizational contexts are primarily social, and thus conceived differently from one culture to another. This is fundamental to our understanding of the challenges of globalization and the powerful forces that foster the international homogenization of management practices. Leadership, decision-making, customer relations, ethics and corporate social responsibility, and interpersonal and corporate communication are just some aspects of management underpinned and influenced by cultural variation. In response to this intellectual and practical challenge this book provides methodological guidelines to enable researchers and practitioners to engage in an alternative approach to cross-cultural management.

The Socio-Economic Approach to Management Revisited

The Socio-Economic Approach to Management Revisited PDF Author: Anthony F. Buono
Publisher: IAP
ISBN: 1681231638
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 471

Book Description
This volume is part of the ongoing collaboration between the RMC series and the Socio-Economic Institute for Firms and Organizations (ISEOR), a French intervention-research think tank co-directed by Henri Savall and Véronique Zardet. Building on an earlier collaboration on the ISEOR approach – Socio-Economic Intervention in Organizations: The Intervener-Researcher and the SEAM Approach to Organizational Analysis (IAP, 2007) – Buono and Savall bring together over 30 talented intervener-researchers to explore and examine the ongoing evolution of the Socio-Economic Approach to Management (SEAM). This volume revisits the application of SEAM in the context of intervention challenges in the wake of the recent economic crisis and the disruptive change that has taken hold across the world. The basic foundation of SEAM – built on the idea of strategic patience, the need to undertake holistic intervention in organizations, and the challenge to get organizational members to listen to themselves (through what they refer to as the mirror effect) – has remained the same. In response to economic and organizational pressures in the current environment, however, there has been a concomitant emphasis on helping client organizations achieve short-term results while still maintaining focus on the long term. Many ideas that have become part of the current discourse within ISEOR today were not as explicitly addressed in the initial volume – from the destructive effect of the Taylorism-Fayolism-Weberism (TFW) virus, to the need to focus on ways to ensure the sustainability of a SEAM intervention, the growing importance of collaborative interactions between external and internal consultants, and the growing importance of cocreating knowledge with client firms and organizations.

Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 1317845277
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 551

Book Description
First published in 1989. The Journal of Development Studies was founded 25 years ago as a professional journal for what had by then become an established sub-discipline within British social science. The Journal has consistently published a broad spectrum of British research on development studies - a catholicity that has been reflected in the composition of the Editorial Board over the years - and has always welcomed authors from the USA, the European Continent, and above all from the Third World. Collated form the last twenty-five years of the journal presented here are a collection of 20-odd papers that represent less than three per cent of articles published since 1964.

Public Enterprise Revisited

Public Enterprise Revisited PDF Author: Chrisafis H. Iordanoglou
Publisher: Edward Elgar Publishing
ISBN: 1781950377
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 671

Book Description
"The book compares the 1954-79 labour productivity record of five expanding public sector industries to that of 24 expanding, capital intensive, mass-production industries in the British private sector. The author shows that the public sector industries' labour productivity growth was significantly faster than that of the private sector industries. Strikingly, he also finds that the state-owned industries were narrowing their productivity gap with their US counterparts at a significantly faster rate than the private sector industries. Dr. Iordanoglou concludes that it is possible that public ownership had - in the historical period investigated - a long-term positive effect on these industries."--BOOK JACKET.

Book Description
The conflict between England and France in the 14th and 15th centuries never ceases to fascinate. This stimulating edited collection, inspired by the Problems in Focus volume originally published in 1971, provides a fresh and accessible insight into the key aspects of The Hundred Years War. With chapters written by leading experts in the field, based on new methodologies and recent advances in scholarship, this book places the Anglo-French wars into a range of wider contexts, such as politics, the home front, the church, and chivalry. Adopting a sustained comparative approach, with attention paid to both England and France, The Hundred Years War Revisited provides a clear and comprehensive synthesis of the major trends in research on the Hundred Years War. Concise and thought-provoking, this is essential reading for undergraduate and postgraduate students of medieval history.
