Book Description
Excerpt from Linnet's Trial, Vol. 2 of 2: A Tale The floor of the little bay which they now entered was strewn with great rocks and boul ders Of limestone, making their advance tedious though not precisely difficult. More tedious, of mum to the lady who expected to be helped and encouraged at every step, than to the light-footed Rose, who, now climbing, now springing, now letting herself down by the hands from some rock higher than usual, now swinging herself across an unexpected pool which made it impossible to walk through some miniature pass between two large boul ders, got over the ground with surprising alacrity. The mere exercise raised her spirits, and She looked back, laughing, at her two deliberate followers, who were far more deeply occupied with each other than with the beauty of the scene before them. Charming room this, Mr. Delamere! Interrupting himself to gaze around; quite in my way, sir, great splendid - agrees with the sign under which I was born. I love splendid things! Lee, you will recollect, is my sign; everything beaming, shooting forth rays, as it were, of brightness. Talking of this, puts me in mind of the noble lady, the Lady Elizabeth. Ma'yl ask if any suitable match has presented itself for her accep tance! Great things, sir - great things were in the square of her house. But then something dark on the disk of her planet was not altogether so favorable we must however hope the best; sometimes these little obscurities are blown oti', as it were, by the intervention of a more favorable planet; and thus an oracular dimness must still accompany astrologi cal predictions. Nevertheless, I think something very strik ing must be on the eve of taking place in the Lady Elizabeth's fate. I never draw a horoscope without keeping a note of it; and - (taking a small greasy book from his side-pocket) here, sir, you see, this denotes wedlock for the lady most assuredly, and that speedily. On completion the corpus will contain a topographical listing of all the 400 or more church buildings of the Kingdom that are attested by documentary or surviving archaeological evidence, and individual descriptions and discussion of them in terms of their identification, building history and architecture. Some of the buildings have been published before, but many others are published here for the first time.
