Book Description
Agricultural Law in Sub-Saharan Africa: Cases and Comments introduces the subject of agricultural law and economics to researchers, practitioners, and students in common law countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, and presents information from the legal system in Botswana, Gambia, Ghana, Lesotho, Malawi, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. The book is supported by an extensive list of reference materials, as well as study and enrichment exercises, to deepen readers’ understanding of the principles discussed in the book. It is a learning tool, first and foremost, and can be used as a stand-alone resource to teach the subject matter of agricultural law and economics to professionals new to the subject area as well as to students in law school, agricultural economics, economics, and inter-disciplinary classes. Offers research findings on such topics as food safety, climate change, transboundary natural resources, international sale of goods, patents, and trademarks to highlight the future sources of pressure on the agriculture industry Uses case-studies to provide real-world insights into the challenges and considerations of appropriate agricultural law development Challenges readers to carry out their own research in their areas of study, and to gain some understanding of the relationship between law, economics, and statistics Includes extensive resources, such as chapter summaries, study questions, and challenge questions at the end of each chapter to assist instructors and students in gaining full benefits from using the book Provides separate instructor and student study guides, a test bank, and test bank answers, in hardcopy and electronic formats

Bennett as a lecture before the Massachusetts State Board of Agricul ture, at Hingham, Massachusetts, December 5, 1878. The lecturer was at that time a member Of the Board. Lectures on Agricultural Law

Lectures on Agricultural Law PDF Author: Robert Hislop

Pages : 166

Book Description
Excerpt from Lectures on Agricultural Law: Including an Examination of the Ground Game Act, 1880; And the Agricultural Holdings (Scotland) Act, 1883, With Digest of Cases, Notes, &C By the common law of Scotland, wild animals, so long as they remain undomesticated or uncaptured by man, belong to nobody; in their wild state they cannot be the subject of private property. When captured, they become the property of the captor, whoever he may be. It is the fact of capture, alive or dead, which gives rise to the idea of property. In England the principle is different, the law of that country recognising a qualified right of property in wild animals in the owner of the land on which they are found. The theory of the Scottish law makes it incorrect to say that the game or other wild animals on an estate belong to the proprietor of the lands: all that he has is the right of shooting or capturing, the animals, which do not become his till he has brought them into his possession or under his control by capture or slaughter. International Agricultural Law and Policy

International Agricultural Law and Policy PDF Author: Hope Johnson
Publisher: Edward Elgar Publishing
ISBN: 178643945X
Category : Law
Languages : en
Pages : 203

Book Description
From soil degradation and biodiversity loss to the coexistence of malnutrition and obesity, many of the largest challenges facing humanity today are underpinned by food and agriculture systems. In order to alleviate and resolve them, global governance of food and agriculture needs to be reformed. Unravelling the array of international regulatory instruments, this timely book provides the first systematic analysis of the international law surrounding food systems. International Agricultural Law and Policyprovides a systems-based analysis of the rules that intersect with the physical elements of agriculture against a framework of commonly held norms. The author conducts a comprehensive examination not only of the rules, but also the implementation and broader socioeconomic, scientific and political context. By, exploring and clarifying the relationship between food security and the right to food and sustainability, Johnson closes the gap between the disparate international rules that govern food and agriculture, while exploring the practical implications of these overlapping regimes. This unique book is an invaluable resource for lawyers and social scientists working within food and agriculture systems and their governance and lays the much-needed groundwork for future research. For policy makers in the food and agricultural space, this book provides a wide-ranging and innovative analysis of the global regulatory landscape that influences law and policy processes.

Agricultural and Agribusiness Law

Agricultural and Agribusiness Law PDF Author: Theodore A. Feitshans
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 0429885822
Category : Law
Languages : en
Pages : 320

Book Description
This introductory textbook provides an overview of the concepts necessary for an understanding of agricultural and agribusiness law. The text will help students of land-based industries with little or no legal background to appreciate and identify issues that may require referral or consultation with legal counsel. This new edition is fully revised and updated, particularly addressing developments in taxation and trade, and includes a new chapter on criminal law, an area of increasing relevance to agriculture. Each concise chapter addresses a different legal issue that those employed in agriculture and agribusiness may face, and both federal law and representative examples of state law are included. In addition to traditional topics such as contracts, property law, and estate planning, the book also covers more contemporary issues such as organic certification, animal law, genetically engineered crops, and food safety. Agricultural law extends beyond those directly engaged in farming to those in agribusiness who provide services and inputs to farmers, buy farmers’ products, store or transport products, manufacture food products and serve as intermediaries between farmers and consumers. The book will, therefore, also serve as a reference and a guide for those employed in agribusiness and agriculture.
