Le sourire gingival se traduit par une exposition gingivale excessive de plus de 3 mm lors d'un sourire retenu. Ce n'est pas une maladie en soi mais il peut, dans certains cas, être à l'origine d'un complexe car souvent inesthétique. Plusieurs causes en sont à l'origine et souvent associées: l'éruption passive incomplète, l'accroissement gingival et enfin l'excès maxillaire antérieur. Une fois le diagnostic posé, plusieurs solutions thérapeutiques sont envisageables: le traitement parodontal, la chirurgie orthognatique et enfin le traitement orthodontique, les trois pouvant être utilisés de manière isolée ou combinée. Seul le traitement parodontal est abordé ici, et comprend entre autres: la gingivectomie et le lambeau déplacé apicalement. Un autre technique est possible, lorsque le sourire gingival est dû à une hyperactivité du muscle ascenseur de la lèvre supérieure, nous pouvons réaliser un « lip repositionning », ainsi que des injections de toxine botulique.

Health IT is a major field of investment in support of healthcare delivery, but patients and professionals tend to have systems imposed upon them by organizational policy or as a result of even higher policy decision. And, while many health IT systems are efficient and welcomed by their users, and are essential to modern healthcare, this is not the case for all.
