The notion of adab is at the heart of Arab-Islamic culture. Born in the crucible of the Arabic and Persian civilization, nourished by Greek and Indian influences, this polysemic notion could cover a variegated range of meanings: good behavior, knowledge of manners, etiquette, rules and belles-lettres and finally, literature. This collection of articles tries to explore how the formulations and reformulations of adab during the first centuries of Islam engage with the crucial period of the first great spiritual masters, exploring the importance of normativity, but also of transgression, in order to define the rules themselves. La question de la « métaphore exotique » sert ici de fil conducteur et permet d'éclairer le corpus leclézien d'un triple point de vue textuel, anthropologique et psychanalytique. L'inscription problématique de l'espace et du voyage domine en effet toute la production littéraire de Le Clézio; et cette inscription s'accompagne d'une certaine ambiguïté générique. D'une part l'analyse montre que l'écriture du voyage fonctionne chez Le Clézio, comme chez Segalen, comme une « écriture des limites », c'est-à-dire comme un déplacement du sujet et du sens. Mais d'autre part l'analyse montre que l'écriture du voyage dessine chez Le Clézio un rapport singulier et ambivalent à l'espace postmoderne, au désenchantement du monde et à la disparition des grands mythes fondateurs, interrogeant l'acte même de la création littéraire. A la fois humaniste et antidogmatique, l'oeuvre de J.M.G. Sufism is a growing and global phenomenon, far from the declining relic it was once thought to be. This book brings together the work of fourteen leading experts to explore systematically the key themes of Sufism's new global presence, from Yemen to Senegal via Chicago and Sweden. Reconsidering the question of religious authority, L'autorité religieuse et ses limites en terres d'islam offers various case studies located in Central Asia, throughout the Ottoman Empire, in the Balkans and in Turkey. The present volume discusses the complex relationships between political power and religious authorities, such as Sufi shaykhs, ulamas, sheikh ul-islâm, hegumens, and the latin clergy in the premodern period. The 20th and 21th centuries are analysed from the perspective of the transformation of religious authority - certainly fragmented but vigorous - among the Bosnian Muslim Reformists, the Albanian Bektashis, the Alevis of Anatolia, and in female Sufism in Istanbul. It appears that religious authority is not limited to traditional authorities and is continuously confronted with limits, whether theological, political, social or institutional.
