Aujourd'hui, dans la société française, alors qu'une vague d'individualisme déferle sur notre pays, à l'école, on pousse de plus en plus les élèves à travailler ensemble, en coopération et discussion. L'objectif de l'Education nationale, sur le long terme, est de former de futurs citoyens français partageant des valeurs communes et pouvant communiquer entre eux, le tout pour les préparer à vivre en société. Ce processus débute dès leur plus jeune âge, à l'Ecole maternelle. L'Ecole maternelle, spécifique à la France, est un lieu d'apprentissage pour les enfants âgés de trois à six ans (désormais deux ans et demi pour les TPS) où l'on vit ensemble, avec des règles et une position d'élève à adopter. Avec le langage, le domaine du vivre ensemble est prioritaire pour l'Ecole maternelle. Cette dimension sociale est transdisciplinaire puisque les élèves travaillent par groupe, communiquent lors des moments collectifs et s'entraident dans les activités, tant de compétences qu'on retrouve plus tard dans les programmes de l'Ecole élémentaire. Ces différentes compétences du vivre ensemble se retrouvent dans un outil : le conseil d'élèves.

This edited volume presents an analysis of the evolution of French language policies and their impact on French regional languages and their communities. It gathers studies on language revitalisation from several territorial minority languages (Breton, Alsatian, Catalan, Occitan, Basque, Corsican, Francoprovençal, Picard, Reunionese) and evaluates the challenges and opportunities that they face in the 21st century. Three stereotypical figures have come to represent the 'war on terror' - the 'dangerous' Muslim man, the 'imperilled' Muslim woman, and the 'civilized' European. Casting Out explores the use of these characterizations in the creation of the myth of the family of democratic Western nations obliged to use political, military, and legal force to defend itself against a menacing third world population. It argues that this myth is promoted to justify the expulsion of Muslims from the political community, a process that takes the form of stigmatization, surveillance, incarceration, torture, and bombing. In this timely and controversial work, Sherene H. Razack looks at contemporary legal and social responses to Muslims in the West and places them in historical context. She explains how 'race thinking,' a structure of thought that divides up the world between the deserving and undeserving according to racial descent, accustoms us to the idea that the suspension of rights for racialized groups is warranted in the interests of national security.
