La pratique du bilan orthophonique interroge en permanence ses utilisateurs. La question de la "mesure" des compétences langagières est au centre de cette recherche, en ciblant principalement la mesure des acquis et des déficits chez les enfants de 5 à 8 ans, tout en se positionnant comme une passerelle entre clinique et recherche. Cette thèse met au centre de la recherche la construction, l'étalonnage et l'utilisation d'un outil de mesure du langage oral et écrit : Exalang 5/8. Elle tente de répondre à la question paradoxale : "il faut mesurer le langage en orthophonie mais est-il mesurable?". Elle évalue les actes opératoires impliqués et les limites de la mesure. Elle s'applique à lier entre elles diverses compétences en langage oral et écrit, par des épreuves discriminantes. Elle montre que la mesure du langage chez un enfant est difficile en théorie et partiellement réalisable en pratique. Elle ouvre des pistes pour d'autres recherches, grâce aux corpus oraux et écrits recueillis
