Disinformation Debunked

Disinformation Debunked PDF Author: Divina Frau-Meigs
Publisher: Taylor & Francis
ISBN: 104003196X
Category : Education
Languages : en
Pages : 321

Book Description
Disinformation Debunked: Building Resilience through Media and Information Literacy examines the way media and information literacy (MIL) can address disinformation in conjunction with fact-checkers and developers, to benefit from the expertise of these fields in fighting disinformation. The book highlights the underlying stakes that are involved in the fight against disinformation, from producing smart tools to generalizing their use beyond the journalistic profession. It considers the MIL theories and methodologies at work in the digital era, especially from the perspective of digital visual literacy. Offering a comparative study of four European national experiences (France, Romania, Spain, and Sweden), the authors also make public policy recommendations to improve the fight against disinformation. This book is of great importance to students, scholars, and educators working on media and information literacy, digital media, journalism, mass communication, misinformation and disinformation.

Media Ethics and Regulation

Media Ethics and Regulation PDF Author: Christina Chan-Meetoo
Publisher: African Books Collective
ISBN: 9956791008
Category : Social Science
Languages : en
Pages : 218

Book Description
This book provides useful pointers to help journalists navigate the dilemmas they face in the professional practice. It provides an enlightening overview of the views of Mauritian journalists on their own industry and an in-depth look at the South African model for self-regulation. As part of the ethical approach, the book also reviews the main issues related to gender-sensitive reporting, in view of the significant role the media have to play in gender education. In an age of information overload, over-exposure to a hyper-mediated culture and the rise of user-generated content, journalists increasingly strive to remain relevant. The temptation to use lower standards, resort to sensationalism and even paycheck journalism is strong. Such examples of unethical practice can only further undermine the credibility of a profession which purports to act as a watchdog, a Fourth Estate. Claims that ethics is a private affair no longer hold good. Journalism is a public good and the need to a clear social contract is stronger than ever in a world where transparency and accountability are on the agenda. Mechanisms for ensuring ethical practice are essential and should be hailed as beacons for a stronger journalism.

Audiovisual Regulation under Pressure

Audiovisual Regulation under Pressure PDF Author: Thomas Gibbons
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 1136502092
Category : Law
Languages : en
Pages : 286

Book Description
In the face of globalization and new media technologies, can policy makers and regulators withstand deregulatory pressures on the ‘cultural policy toolkit’ for television? This comparative study provides an interdisciplinary investigation of trends in audiovisual regulation, with the focus on television and new media. It considers pressures for deregulation and for policy in this field to prioritise market development and economic goals rather than traditional cultural and democratic objectives, notably public service content, the promotion of national and local culture, media pluralism and diversity. The book explores regulatory policy in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Europe. The book focuses on a range of instruments designed for promoting pluralism and cultural diversity, particularly the role of public service broadcasting and the range of measures available for promoting cultural policy goals, such as subsidies, scheduling and investment quotas, as well as (particularly national) media ownership rules. The book draws on findings of two research projects funded by the UK Economic and Social Research Council and is written in an accessible style by leading scholars of media law and policy, who bring to bear insights from their respective disciplines of law and political science.

Outsourcing Rulemaking Powers

Outsourcing Rulemaking Powers PDF Author: Cedric Jenart
Publisher: Oxford University Press
ISBN: 0192652621
Category : Law
Languages : en
Pages : 321

Book Description
Within democratic states, parliaments have always been regarded as playing a pivotal role in the creation of rules. Through its composition, parliament represents the opinions and interests of society, which it serves through the legislative process. But in an increasingly globalized world, nation-states are confronted with issues that require international cooperation, expert knowledge and flexibility to resolve. Rather than taking the lead, parliaments are increasingly settling for a managerial position and have begun to outsource their rulemaking powers (and other constitutional responsibilities) rather than exercising them themselves. Outsourcing Rulemaking Powers identifies the shared constitutional principles that determine the limits to the outsourcing of rulemaking powers. It asks fundamental questions of its readers, such as: which powers should be outsourced? And to whom? What mechanisms are in place to guarantee the quality of the rules they make? Through the examination of multiple countries, this book argues that there should be minimal legal safeguards to which all rules must heed, in particular those made by autonomous public or private actors. Offering a bridge between traditional constitutional law and transnational private law, this book will be of interest to both practitioners and scholars within the global communities of comparative constitutionalism, global administrative law and transnational private law.

Compliance Tools

Compliance Tools PDF Author: Marie–Anne Frison–Roche
Publisher: Bruylant
ISBN: 2802770403
Category : Law
Languages : en
Pages : 327

Book Description
Compliance Law is defined by the Monumental Goals it pursues. Willingly or by force, companies must structure themselves and act to reach them. In a major and global transformation, they are thereby becoming transparent, making Compliance Tools visible. Emphasizing the unity of these Tools promotes a unified legal regime, while adapting them country by country, sector by sector, company by company. Understanding these Compliance Tools to anticipate the assessment made by Regulators, Supervisors and Courts, and the provisions of future texts, while companies are invited to invent new ones, is hopefully more appropriate. General perspectives through which risk maps, compliance programs, deals and judicial agreements, ad hoc training, algorithms, audits, sanctions, controls, whistleblowing, collective actions, etc. are scrutinized. Co-published with the Journal of Regulation & Compliance.
