Modernization and Foreign Trade in the Health Services

Modernization and Foreign Trade in the Health Services PDF Author: Francisco León
Publisher: Naciones Unidas, Social Development Division
ISBN:
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 48

Book Description
This paper examines the impact of modernisation of the health system on foreign trade in health services in Chile during the period 1983-1999. It establishes linkages between specific aspects of reform and modernisation of the health sector and imports and exports of specific services produced or required by the health system. A description is given of the modernisation and reform process which has the potential to promote foreign trade in the area of health and a number of theories are outlined in this respect. It examines the effective influence of modernisation and health reform linkages on the export and import of health services. The conclusions are that modernisation and health reform in Chile have contributed to an internationalisation of health, and that the development of trade in health-related services and goods is an important and growing part of this process.

Social Alternatives in Southern Europe and Latin America

Social Alternatives in Southern Europe and Latin America PDF Author: Montserrat Duch-Plana
Publisher: Taylor & Francis
ISBN: 1040000290
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 252

Book Description
This book deals with the evolution of initiatives connected to the social and solidarity economy and their political cultures and educational implications in the south of Europe and in Latin America. Employing a comparative perspective, the contributors present 11 studies of these trajectories in Argentina, Chile, Portugal, France, Italy, Spain, and Catalonia in order to engender familiarity with social tributary practices and projects in the Latin world. As the cyclical crises of capitalism and their resulting inequalities have created proposals of reform and brought them into action, certain shared ideological influences and policies have emerged across these societies. Faced with the interpretative schemes used for the Anglo-Saxon sphere, which have been the usual reference in international research, this volume’s geographical and cultural matrix of analysis helps fill a longstanding gap in this field. The book will be of interest to scholars, educators, and students specialising in the history and political science of the social and solidarity economy sectors, as well as professionals involved in cooperatives, mutual aid societies, and associations.

Politics In Chile

Politics In Chile PDF Author: Lois Hecht Oppenheim
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 0429974469
Category : Political Science
Languages : en
Pages : 550

Book Description
The third edition of Politics in Chile provides significantly updated coverage of Chilean politics and economic development from the return to civilian rule in 1990 to the 2006 election and early administration of Socialist Michelle Bachelet, Chile's first woman president. Lois Hecht Oppenheim focuses on recent efforts to reconstruct democratic practices and institutions, including resolving such sensitive and lingering issues as human-rights violations under Pinochet and civil-military relations. Chapters on the contemporary politics and economics under the civilian Concertaci governments are largely rewritten for this edition. Rather than focusing on the "search for development", the third edition considers in greater depth the "exceptionalism" of the Chilean economic experiment through successive stages of stability, socialism, and neoliberalism.
