The new container will replace the wood crates presently used. The current containers' lack of mechanical and environmental protection prompted AFPTEF's design of a new container. The container developed, CNU-691/E, will protect the NLG mechanically and environmentally. The CNU-691/E, designed to ARF1967A, is an aluminum, long-life, controlled breathing, reusable container. The container passed all qualification tests per ASTM D4169. The CNU-691/E container will not only meet the users' requirements but will also provide an economic saving for the Air Force. The savings will be thousands of dollars over the twenty-year life span of the container.
